Quanfluence Secures $10 Million for Photonic Quantum Technology
Photonic quantum technology startup Quanfluence has successfully garnered $10 million in a funding round overseen by Chiratae Ventures, with contributions from Rainmatter by Zerodha and previous investor Pi Ventures. Based in Bengaluru, the startup previously acquired $2 million in a seed funding round led by Pi Ventures with additional backing from Golden Sparrow, Reena Dayal, and other investors in December 2024. The newly acquired capital will be dedicated to the development and launch of a four-qubit quantum computer shortly, with aspirations for a more extensive prototype of approximately 100 qubits by 2029, according to a statement from Quanfluence.
Established in 2021 by Sujoy Chakravarty, Ravi Mehta, Biman Chattopadhyay, Anil Prabhakar, Aditi Vaidya, and Sandeep Goyal, Quanfluence specialises in photonic quantum computing technology aimed at solving optimisation challenges. Their hardware-oriented solution is crafted to enhance AI’s role in decision-making processes. The goal is to create a fault-tolerant, general-purpose quantum computer over the next five to six years.
Unlike traditional quantum computing systems that necessitate intricate cooling systems, Quanfluence’s technology merges optics and hardware to function at room temperature. Its optical Ising machine utilises light waves and FPGAs for optimisation tasks, which the company asserts can boost speeds up to 100 times faster than classical computing for specific workloads.
The startup’s platform is tailored to tackle high-dimensional optimisation problems found in sectors such as logistics, workforce scheduling, risk management, and financial optimisation. Furthermore, Quanfluence is experimenting with an advanced variant of its system capable of handling 10-25 million permutations for intricate optimisation challenges, including financial risk assessment and logistics route planning.
This industry is receiving increasing attention, particularly with the government’s Rs 6,003.65-crore National Quantum Mission, which recognises photonic technologies as vital elements being developed for quantum computing. Other firms in the field have also drawn significant investor interest. For instance, QpiAI raised $32 million in Series A funding last year from Avataar Ventures and the National Quantum Mission, while BQP, previously branded as BosonQ Psi, secured around $5 million in seed funding in 2023 for its quantum-inspired simulation technology. QuBeats, another deeptech enterprise focusing on quantum sensing and advanced laser technologies, successfully raised $15 million in its inaugural institutional funding round in April from Zoho Corporation, Indusbridge Ventures, and the National Quantum Mission, supplemented by government grant assistance.
