Food delivery and quick commerce leader Swiggy announced the launch of Swiggy Serves, its primary initiative aimed at tackling hunger and reducing food waste within its supply chain. This campaign is part of a collaboration with the volunteer organisation Robin Hood Army (RHA), which focuses on redistributing surplus food from Swiggy’s restaurant partners to communities in need. The goal of Swiggy and RHA is to deliver 50 million meals by 2030 by using technology to enhance food redistribution, as stated in Swiggy’s announcement.

Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, commented, “With ‘Swiggy Serves,’ we are utilising our strengths and resources to meet a broader societal need and combat food wastage and hunger. We are eager to work alongside RHA to ensure that surplus food from our restaurant partners reaches those who require it.”

Additional Information

In its initial phase, Swiggy Serves has successfully redistributed over 2,000 meals across 33 Indian cities, with more than 126 restaurant partners joining the initiative, including:

  • Dabba Garam
  • House of Biryani
  • B.Tech Momos Wala
  • Samosa Singh
  • Babai Tiffins
  • Dosa Anna
  • Urban Tandoor

Restaurants can participate in Swiggy Serves by completing a form on the Swiggy Owner app, indicating their readiness to donate surplus or fresh food. Once registered, RHA will integrate these restaurant partners into dedicated WhatsApp groups for effective communication and coordination.

RHA volunteers, consisting of thousands of young professionals, retirees, homemakers, and college students, will collect surplus food from these partners and ensure its distribution to communities in need.

Neel Ghose, Co-founder of Robin Hood Army, shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Robin Hood Army is excited to collaborate with Swiggy for this common objective of reducing hunger. When a leading company like Swiggy teams up with a community-focused initiative, it magnifies the impact, encouraging others to join the hunger alleviation effort. Together, we’re fostering a united front to ensure no plate goes unfulfilled.”

Over the past decade, RHA has provided over 153 million meals in 406 cities globally.
