Swiggy Scam Alert: Delivery Partners Exploiting Customers
A new Swiggy scam is gaining attention, whereby delivery partners feign injuries and solicit money from customers for hospital visits. A recent report highlighted that a customer lost Rs 10,000 to a delivery agent who posed as a victim of an accident.
Ankur, an X user (@kur_ankur), took to social media to share his alarming experience. He recounted the details, stating, “I reported a fraudulent activity by Swiggy delivery agent – Order ID – 196321527736748, on 20th Jan, 2025… It’s been more than 2 weeks now & I haven’t received anything from Swiggy.”
Allegations Against Delivery Agent
The delivery agent, referred to as “Rohit Saxena,” supposedly approached Ankur in a state of distress, claiming he had suffered an accident while delivering and urgently needed funds for medical care.
Ankur revealed, “Rohit, the delivery agent, claimed to have been injured on the job (he appeared to be hurt with bleeding legs).” The agent implored for financial aid, arguing that the processing of Swiggy’s insurance might take a week. Ankur mentioned, “Out of concern and to assist him, I chose to provide the amount he sought.”
Request for Additional Funds Raises Concerns
However, Ankur’s doubt increased when “Rohit” called for more money shortly afterward. “Within an hour he called me to request more funds stating the treatment cost is around ₹22,000/- INR,” Ankur pointed out.
Contacting Swiggy for Clarification
Worried, Ankur reached out to Swiggy, only to be provided with vague assurances. Swiggy’s reply indicated, “We’ve flagged the issue you raised to our team. They’re on the case and will be looking into it as soon as possible.”
Unraveling Financial Discrepancies
The situation took a turn for the worse as Ankur conducted further investigation. “The name on the Paytm account for the transaction was ‘Udit Kumar Singh,’ as provided by ‘Rohit’. I made the transaction in haste, not noticing the name error, due to the urgent circumstances,” he elaborated. Through his research, Ankur found numerous accounts of similar scams involving Swiggy agents, particularly in the Delhi NCR area.
One Reddit user recounted, “The Swiggy guy after delivering my order started crying profusely and told me he met with an accident… I gave him 5000 and he left.” Another shared, “Now after an hour I got a call from him again that it is a fracture and the hospital is asking for 9K.” These incidents mirrored Ankur’s account, indicating a potentially large-scale scam targeting Swiggy customers.
Identifying the Alleged Scammer
Ankur also mentioned, “I was able to find the picture of the delivery agent on these threads and can confirm it is the same person who was my delivery agent – ‘Rohit Saxena’ and who SCAMMED me.” Alarmingly, he stated, “We have identified the scammer unmistakably and also possess evidence that he has been operating as a Swiggy agent for over a year (and according to comments in the Reddit threads – he may have been employed for more than 3 years).”
Swiggy’s Response to the Incident
Ankur proceeded to share an email reply from Swiggy, which read: “We’ve flagged the issue you raised with our team. They’re on the case and will be looking into it as soon as possible. Our goal is to have this sorted out for you as swiftly as we can. I understand how important this is, so I wanted to reassure you that we’re committed to getting things back on track. In terms of timing, we’re aiming to have a resolution within the next 48 hours.”
To this, Ankur conveyed his disappointment, stating, “It shakes my trust, not only in individuals but in humanity itself – not helping anyone again.”
At present, further action on the incident from the company remains to be seen.
