Tinder Expands Dating Safety Guide in Indian Languages
Tinder, in partnership with the Centre for Social Research (CSR), has released its Dating Safety Guide in four Indian languages: Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, and Bengali. This initiative aims to make safety resources more accessible for a broader range of users. The launch, timed with Safer Internet Day, underscores Tinder’s dedication to improving safety and awareness within the online dating environment.
Initially unveiled in 2023, the guide has seen considerable engagement, accumulating over 1 million views and 50,000 downloads. The latest expansion is targeted at overcoming language barriers, allowing a larger number of users throughout India to access safety resources in their preferred language.
Understanding the Tinder Dating Safety Guide
The Tinder Dating Safety Guide is crafted to educate individuals on maintaining safe online interactions and adhering to responsible dating habits. It provides valuable insights into recognising red and green flags in communications, grasping the significance of consent, and effectively using in-app safety functionalities.
Key Features of the Tinder Dating Safety Guide
- Spotting Red & Green Flags: Assists users in detecting warning signs in their interactions and acknowledging respectful communication.
- Understanding Consent: Highlights the importance of clear and enthusiastic consent in dating scenarios.
- Utilising Safety Features: Advises users to take advantage of tools like Photo Verification, Unmatch, and Block Contacts to retain control over their dating experiences.
- Reporting Inappropriate Behaviour: Instructs users on how to report harassment or misconduct through the app and access credible support resources.
Throughout February, Tinder is set to promote safety awareness through in-app notifications, encouraging users to download the safety guide in their chosen language. Additionally, the guide will showcase resources like www.letstalkconsent.com and the “Let’s Talk Consent” course available on Coursera, created in collaboration with the youth-focused platform Yuvaa.
Dr Yoel Roth, Vice President of Trust & Safety at Match Group, Tinder’s parent company, stated: “At Match Group, we are dedicated to enhancing dating safety for millions of individuals globally. In recognition of Safer Internet Day, we are rolling out the Tinder Dating Safety Guide in multiple languages, equipping young daters in India with essential tools and advice. By collaborating with the Centre for Social Research, we are promoting awareness of practical measures for safer dating and reinforcing our commitment to higher safety standards across our platforms and within the industry.”
Jyoti Vadehra, Digital Trust and Safety Lead at CSR, expressed, “For over forty years, the Centre for Social Research has been leading efforts to promote gender equality, and in recent years, we have concentrated on making online spaces safer and more inclusive. In this commitment, my team has worked alongside Tinder to develop this Dating Safety Guide, which is now being made available in Indian languages to engage a broader audience. It is hoped that this guide will empower individuals, especially women, to confidently navigate the online dating world, fostering authentic and respectful connections while prioritising safety.”
Tinder has continually invested in innovative safety features, including AI-driven tools such as “Are You Sure?” and “Does This Bother You?”, which encourage users to reconsider possibly inappropriate messages before sending them.
