Women’s Health: Zydus Healthcare’s Mega FibroScan Camps

Women’s health took centre stage as Zydus Healthcare Ltd launched Mega FibroScan Camps, focusing on a critical yet often neglected issue: liver health. This initiative coincided with International Women’s Day and was conducted across prominent Zydus Healthcare centres in major cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, Jaipur, and Bangalore, benefiting hundreds of female patients. The programme aimed to promote proactive preventive healthcare among women through screenings, awareness sessions, and medical consultations, specifically targeting the rising risks associated with lifestyle-related liver conditions.

Highlights

  • 1 Understanding the Risks of Liver Health
    • 1.1 The Importance of Early Detection
  • 2 Initiative Details
    • 2.1 A Supportive Environment for Women
  • 3 The Role of Healthcare Professionals
    • 3.1 Commitment to Preventive Healthcare

Understanding the Risks of Liver Health

The discussion around women’s health frequently emphasises reproductive issues and nutrition; however, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is becoming a significant concern. Medical professionals have pointed out that metabolic conditions such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), increasingly prevalent in India, are closely associated with risks to liver health. The need for timely liver screenings has never been more important as sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy eating habits, and broader metabolic disorders contribute to the increasing prevalence of liver-related issues among women.

The Importance of Early Detection

By focusing on screening and education, Zydus Healthcare sought to spotlight early detection and awareness. A key part of the programme was the use of Vibration Control Transient Elastography (VCTE) technology through FibroScan. This non-invasive diagnostic tool assesses liver stiffness and identifies fatty liver disease, which can develop insidiously. Unlike more complex traditional methods, FibroScan offers a quick and reliable evaluation, making it ideal for large-scale screening efforts. Medical professionals emphasise that early diagnosis is crucial since many liver conditions may not show symptoms until they have advanced significantly.

Initiative Details

The initiative comprised five Mega FibroScan Camps, screening around 70 women per session, resulting in numerous women receiving vital early health assessments. For many attendees, this was their first experience with liver health screenings. Doctors highlighted that preventive tests are essential for uncovering risk factors like fatty liver disease and other metabolic conditions. Furthermore, these screenings provided healthcare professionals an opportunity to offer tailored advice to women who might need additional medical support or lifestyle changes.

A Supportive Environment for Women

These camps were also designed to foster an encouraging atmosphere that prompted women to prioritise their overall health. Healthcare providers noted that many women prioritise family needs above their own well-being. By creating camps exclusively for women, the initiative aimed to make the screening process more accessible and comfortable. Participants were welcomed to awareness sessions where doctors elaborated on the significance of diet, exercise, and regular medical examinations in maintaining liver health. These discussions highlighted the connection between liver health and daily lifestyle habits, including nutrition, physical activity levels, and metabolic health indicators such as obesity and diabetes.

The Role of Healthcare Professionals

Numerous healthcare professionals participated in the initiative by conducting screenings and engaging with attendees. Medical experts utilised this platform to discuss preventive healthcare strategies, explaining how early diagnosis can markedly enhance long-term health outcomes. In addition to testing, doctors interacted with participants, addressing common myths surrounding liver disease. Such exchanges were vital in reinforcing the message that preventive health screenings are not only beneficial but essential.

Commitment to Preventive Healthcare

Zydus Healthcare Ltd’s initiative reflects a larger commitment to preventive healthcare and community awareness. The company has been active in tackling the rising prevalence of fatty liver disease through various patient-focused initiatives, including extensive screening programmes that reach thousands of patients daily, community walkathons for awareness, and the establishment of specialised clinics for early diagnosis and treatment. Furthermore, the initiative concentrates on educating patients about what healthcare experts often term a “silent pandemic,” relating to the increasing occurrence of fatty liver disease linked to lifestyle and metabolic issues.

Women participating in the camps received advice on balanced nutrition, weight management, and integrating regular physical activity into their daily schedules. Medical professionals underscored the necessity of routine health check-ups, especially for individuals with metabolic conditions. This program aimed to ensure attendees departed equipped with both knowledge and practical strategies to promote long-term liver health.

The initiative’s impact was clear, as hundreds of women participated in screenings and awareness activities. For many, this programme served as a reminder that preventive health begins with awareness and timely engagement. By merging medical expertise with accessible screening technology, the programme sought to bridge the gap between knowing and acting on health issues. As healthcare professionals frequently highlight, early screenings and lifestyle modifications can greatly lower the long-term risks tied to liver disease. Through this Women’s Day initiative, Zydus Healthcare aimed to encourage a shift towards proactive health decisions and greater emphasis on a vital yet often overlooked aspect of women’s health.
