SpotKwik Acquisition by Omnia: A New Era in Augmented Reality
SpotKwik, a startup focused on augmented reality backed by Silicon Valley, has been acquired by the US-based extended reality company Omnia. The specifics of the all-stock transaction remain undisclosed. Mithun Adith, the Co-founder and CEO of SpotKwik, remarked that while SpotKwik’s AR technology currently caters to today’s platforms like smartphones, the aim is to innovate for future platforms, such as headsets like Apple Vision Pro. This advancement will help apps transcend traditional display limitations and appear as if perceived through natural vision.
Adith further stated that Omnia, with its expertise in XR distribution and a roster of prominent clients, including Tesla, AOI, and GM, is ideally positioned to assist SpotKwik in shaping the future. The collaboration signifies a transition from mobile computing to spatial computing.
SpotKwik: A Pioneer in Augmented Reality Solutions
Founded in 2020 by Mithun Adith and Anusha Sundar, SpotKwik is based in Bengaluru and functions as a social commerce platform that leverages augmented reality to enrich the shopping experience for consumers. In 2020, SpotKwik secured investment from Silicon Valley’s MARL 5G Accelerator. It earned recognition as one of the top 5 AR startups globally for its unique approach to AR/VR solutions, as highlighted in a press release.
SpotKwik offers AI-driven deep tagging solutions and AR as a service, aiming to enhance consumer interactions.
Omnia: Leading the Way in AR Marketplace
Omnia operates as a marketplace for creators, brands, and enterprises focusing on augmented reality. The firm provides spatial experiences for clients such as Tesla, led by Elon Musk, alongside many well-known American brands. The incorporation of SpotKwik into Omnia will enhance their access to versatile R&D and product offerings.
Strategic Move for Future Growth
Aldo Petruzzli, CEO and Founder of Omnia, described the acquisition of SpotKwik as a pivotal step in their mission to connect traditional web-based experiences with the unfolding spatial computing revolution. By assimilating SpotKwik’s capabilities, Omnia will facilitate the efficient transition of web-based applications into spatial-ready formats, accelerating industry-wide adoption.
This strategic integration not only improves content discoverability in AR and XR settings, but it also allows developers to implement their projects seamlessly into the forthcoming computing era without starting from the ground up.
Looking Ahead
A joint statement from the founders of SpotKwik and Omnia indicated that the core team of SpotKwik will remain with Omnia, focusing on creating solutions that revolutionise immersive experiences and transform brand engagement for users. Meanwhile, Adith is projected to launch a new venture by early 2025.
