Cellarim Labs: Innovative Cell Free Biomanufacturing in Beauty and Personal Care
Cellarim Labs, a pioneering biotechnology startup specialising in cell free biomanufacturing for beauty and personal care ingredients, has secured Rs 6 crore in a seed funding round co-led by 3i Partners and Venture Catalysts. This funding round also attracted investments from Momentum Capital, Jashan Bhumkar, Gayathri Kuppendra Reddy, among others. The funds raised will support the establishment of a pilot-scale biomanufacturing facility, facilitate the rapid commercial production of NeuHyal, and broaden the B2B supply of ingredients to beauty and cosmetics brands, as stated in a recent press release.
About Cellarim Labs
Founded in 2023 by Hitesh Rafalia and Nisa Mehreen, Cellarim Labs is dedicated to creating innovative production techniques for cosmetic ingredients. The startup is focused on tackling challenges in the beauty ingredients sector, including reliance on imported bioactives, fluctuating supply, inconsistencies in purity, and elevated costs faced by brands.
Revolutionising Production Methods
The company has introduced a cell free, enzyme-based manufacturing platform that substitutes traditional fermentation and chemical synthesis methods. This cutting-edge platform integrates enzyme engineering and bioprocessing, transforming renewable bio waste into cosmetic ingredients with reliable specifications.
AI-Driven Biofoundry and New Product Development
Cellarim Labs is also in the process of developing an AI-driven biofoundry that allows partner brands to submit target molecules for design, testing, and production. This initiative aims to shorten the timelines involved in developing new bioactive ingredients.
NeuHyal: A Game Changer in Hyaluronic Acid
Within a year, the startup has rolled out NeuHyal, a diverse Hyaluronic Acid portfolio ranging from 10 kDa to 5000 kDa. This product line is tailored for various applications in skincare, cosmetics, and other related fields, providing a viable alternative to traditional Hyaluronic Acid sources.
Market Potential
Cellarim Labs is strategically positioned to tap into the global Hyaluronic Acid market, which is valued at approximately $9 billion and encompasses applications in skincare, dermal fillers, and medical-grade contexts.
