The Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), in collaboration with NITI Aayog and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has officially unveiled the seventh iteration of the Youth Co:Lab National Innovation Challenge for 2024-2025. This year, the challenge is inviting young entrepreneurs, including individuals with disabilities, to create solutions that improve opportunities and well-being for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) across three key areas:
Focus Areas
- Inclusive Assistive Technology
- Accessible Education and Skilling
- Innovative Care Models
The initiative has been launched in partnership with Citi Foundation and AssisTech Foundation (ATF), which serves as the implementation partner. Eligible applicants include youth-led startups (aged 18-29, with an extension to 32 for marginalised groups) and NGOs that align with the programme’s themes. Startups must have been incorporated after December 2019 and possess a functional prototype.
Key Objectives
Angela Lusigi, the UNDP Resident Representative for India, highlighted the importance of young individuals, emphasising that they embody the changemakers of today and not just the leaders of tomorrow. She stated that this year’s challenge prioritises startups that are created by and for persons with disabilities, affirming the necessity of promoting disability-inclusive development as crucial for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Application Details
The application process will close on January 18, 2025. Shortlisted participants will gain access to the National Springboard Programme, which includes:
- A two-month virtual incubation for the top 35 startups
- An in-person bootcamp for the top 20 startups, featuring mentorship, workshops, and guidance on scaling and investment readiness.
The top six startups will be awarded seed grants ranging from Rs 1.5 to 2.5 lakhs each and will also have the chance to represent India at the Asia-Pacific Youth Co:Lab Summit, where they can pursue additional mentorship, networking, and acceleration opportunities.
