Go Digit General Insurance Subject to New GST Notice
Go Digit General Insurance is now dealing with a fresh show cause notice from the GST department, shortly after receiving relief from the Bombay High Court concerning an earlier tax conflict. According to a filing with the stock exchange, the insurer received a demand-cum-show cause notice on September 22, 2025, from the Office of the Commissioner, CGST Audit-I, located in New Delhi. This notice, delivered on September 23, asserts a demand of Rs 150 crore, alongside applicable interest, and a penalty that may reach up to 25% of the tax amount.
In the statement issued to the NSE (National Stock Exchange), Go Digit emphasised that a detailed response supported by relevant facts and figures will be submitted within the required time frames. The company further clarified that there is no immediate financial or operational impact, as the issue remains under dispute.
Historical Context of the GST Dispute
This latest situation arises after the Bombay High Court, in July 2025, quashed a GST demand of Rs 170.29 crore that had been raised by the Chennai South Commissionerate of GST & Central Excise.
Financial Overview for Q1FY26
On the financial side, during the first quarter of the current fiscal year (Q1FY26), Go Digit reported a total revenue of Rs 1,865 crore, achieving profits of Rs 121 crore. As of 12:35 PM, the company’s shares are trading at Rs 358.7, with a total market capitalisation standing at Rs 33,105 crore ($3.76 billion).
