Electric Vehicle Policy 2025 Approved in Maharashtra

The Maharashtra cabinet has given the green light to the Electric Vehicle Policy 2025. This policy includes a toll exemption for specific electric vehicles travelling on highways and introduces subsidies to encourage the adoption of such vehicles, aiming to reduce air pollution.

The policy received approval during a state cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The announcement outlined that this policy will remain in effect until the year 2030, with an allocation of Rs 1,993 crore for the initiative.

“The state government has announced a new Electric Vehicle (EV) policy, which will provide subsidies for passenger EVs. The objective is to enhance the manufacturing and utilisation of EVs across the state,” stated Fadnavis.

Strengthening Charging Infrastructure

In accordance with the policy, there are plans to enhance the charging infrastructure. The initiative will ensure the availability of charging stations along national highways at intervals of 25 km. Furthermore, the policy aims to implement the Clean Mobility Transition Model by offering incentives for EV purchases up until 2030.

Subsidies and Concessions for Electric Vehicles

Electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and private four-wheelers, along with state transport corporation buses and private buses operated by civic bodies, will receive a 10 per cent discount on their purchase relative to the original price.

Electric goods-carrying three-wheelers and four-wheelers, as well as electric tractors, will be entitled to a 15 per cent reduction based on their original cost. Additionally, the registration fee for these EVs will be waived.

Toll Exemptions for Electric Vehicles

The policy includes a toll exemption for four-wheeler EVs and buses using the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Atal Setu, and Samruddhi Mahamarg. For other state and national highways, these vehicles will be charged only 50 per cent of the standard toll.
