LowCarbon.Earth: Climate Startup Accelerator Launched for Sustainability
The focus keyword for this initiative is LowCarbon.Earth, which is at the centre of the climate startup accelerator launched by the Massive Earth Foundation in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The launch took place on World Environment Day at the India Habitat Centre in Delhi.
The event was officiated by Leena Nandan, former Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), and included delegates from various organisations such as UNESCO, UNEP, NPC, APC, alongside senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers.
Overview of LowCarbon.Earth
Incepted in 2021, LowCarbon.Earth aims to support climate tech startups in their early stages through a venture capital (VC) model. The accelerator boasts of backing over 180 startups to date, facilitating the deployment of $350 million in funding while fostering global collaborations in climate innovation.
Focus Areas of the Accelerator
The initiative centres its efforts on critical sectors including air and plastic pollution, electric vehicle (EV) mobility, agriculture, and waste management. Alongside funding and mentorship, participants will receive support from UNEP. The programme particularly encourages applications from founders representing women-led, youth, and marginalized communities.
Vinutha Raju, Program Head at the Massive Earth Foundation, shared insights on the impact of these startups: “These startups not only succeed in cutting down carbon emissions, supporting the circular economy, and building sustainable solutions but also achieve this while generating wealth. With the right support, framework, and financing, building sustainability can become a highly profitable venture.”
How to Apply for LowCarbon.Earth
Startups interested in participating in this fifth edition of LowCarbon.Earth can submit their applications via Lowcarbon.earth. The overarching goal of this initiative is to advance a green, circular economy whilst striving to meet net-zero targets by the year 2030.
