Paras Chopra’s Ambitious AI Lab Plans in India
Indian entrepreneur Paras Chopra, who recently completed the sale of Wingify for $200 million, is setting his sights on establishing a cutting-edge AI lab in India. In a post on the social media platform X, Chopra shared his vision of developing advanced AI algorithms and efficient reasoning models that could have a significant global influence.
To realise this ambitious project, Chopra is in the process of gathering a team to formulate a proposal for India’s AI initiative and is on the lookout for technical experts to join him, whether they prefer full-time or part-time roles. However, the details regarding the name of this new undertaking have yet to be revealed.
Chopra is convinced that addressing challenges within complex fields is vital for driving economic progress. He believes that improving AI models endowed with superior reasoning capabilities can play a pivotal role in tackling some of the globe’s most pressing issues, including poverty, cancer, and profound inquiries related to the universe and human awareness.
In contrast to large Western AI laboratories that enjoy substantial budgets for GPUs, Chopra’s project will focus on efficiency. The team plans to investigate innovative techniques such as reinforcement learning, distillation, pruning, and approaches rooted in neuroscience to enhance AI functionality while utilising limited computational resources.
This ambitious AI lab will be Chopra’s third entrepreneurial venture, succeeding Wingify (VWO) and Nintee. Wingify was acquired by Everstone, while Nintee was shut down in April of the previous year. The company, which received backing from Peak XV, Kunal Shah, and other investors, returned a significant portion of the capital raised from its investors.
