Mirae Asset Venture Investments Appoints Puneet Kumar as CEO
Mirae Asset Venture Investments (India) Private Limited, a key division of Mirae Asset Global Investments Korea, has taken a significant step by appointing Puneet Kumar as the Chief Executive Officer of its private investing and venture capital sector. In his new position, Kumar will oversee the firm’s venture investing framework, which aims to support companies that align with the organisation’s long-term strategies for innovation and growth.
Puneet Kumar’s Role and Responsibilities
In his role, Kumar is set to lead the venture investing platform, focusing on startups across various domains, including technology platforms, consumer goods, artificial intelligence, and deep technology. Mirae Asset has previously invested in several notable startups, which includes companies like Eternal (Zomato), Raise (Dhan), Shadowfax, and KreditBee. As of November 30, 2025, the private investing sector in India manages over Rs 1,477 crore across two Category II Alternative Investment Funds. Meanwhile, globally, Mirae Asset’s venture capital segment oversees $4.4 billion in assets.
Puneet Kumar’s Experience Prior to Mirae Asset
Before his appointment at Mirae Asset, Kumar served as Managing Director at Steadview Capital, a global hedge fund concentrating on technology, which manages assets exceeding $3 billion. He spent more than six years at Steadview, where he focused on investing in both public and private equities, primarily targeting the Indian market. The private technology portfolio of Steadview features prominent companies like Dream11, Nykaa, Unacademy, Freshworks, Ola, Urban Company, PolicyBazaar, Zomato, Lenskart, Chargebee, Zenoti, Innovaccer, INDmoney, Atomberg, Zetwerk, and Ultrahuman.
Previous Roles in Venture Capital
Puneet Kumar also held the position of Vice President at Nexus Venture Partners from 2017 to 2019. His responsibilities included identifying investment opportunities across sectors such as SaaS, consumer goods, agritech, gaming, and new-age consumer companies. Some of the remarkable companies he was involved with during this time include Observe.ai, Rapido, Pando, Squadcast, Maximl, LiveHealth, and Intello Labs.
Mirae Asset has articulated its plans to expand its private investing operations in India. This strategic move underscores the firm’s dedication to fostering innovation and supporting emerging businesses across multiple sectors.
