SpeakX Secures $16 Million to Enhance English Learning App
SpeakX, an edtech company formerly recognised as Yellow Class, has successfully raised $16 million in a recent funding round headed by WestBridge Capital. Other contributors included Elevation Capital, Goodwater Capital, and angel investors such as Ronnie Screwvala and Shyamal Anadkat. This new funding will aid in product development, boost user growth, and help expand the application’s availability into new regions.
Transforming the English Learning Experience
SpeakX is primarily focused on creating an English learning application that utilises voice technology and artificial intelligence to assist users in enhancing their conversational English skills. Before this funding round, SpeakX had secured a total of $7.3 million, including $1.3 million in seed capital led by India Quotient, followed by a $6 million Series A funding round led by Elevation Capital in 2021.
Subscription-Based Learning Model
Under the leadership of Arpit Mittal, SpeakX operates on a subscription model that provides access to engaging English-speaking lessons tailored for children and young learners. The application incorporates speech recognition coupled with personalised learning modules to assess pronunciation, vocabulary, and overall fluency.
Evolution Towards AI-Powered Learning
The company initially started as a live learning platform but shifted its strategy in 2023 to focus on an AI-driven learning app, making English education more accessible and scalable. SpeakX’s app is currently available in India and select international markets, with intentions to broaden its reach further into Asia and the Middle East.
Funding Landscape in Edtech
This latest investment occurs in the context of a notable slowdown in the edtech sector. To date in 2025, startups within this field have garnered only $140 million across 24 funding deals. Recently, Vedantu managed to raise $11 million as part of a broader funding round, while Eruditus received $150 million through a refinancing round led by Mars Growth Capital.
