Uber Launches Courier XL for Large Deliveries
Uber has introduced Courier XL, a new extension of its logistics service that allows for the delivery of larger items. This service is now active in Delhi NCR and Mumbai, with plans to expand to additional cities shortly. Courier XL enables customers to send packages weighing up to 750 kilograms.
Details of Courier XL
According to Uber, deliveries for larger items will be made using both three- and four-wheeler vehicles. This innovative service aims to provide a quick, tech-driven method for transporting heavier goods. The introduction of Courier XL comes after the success of Uber’s existing bike-based delivery service, known as Uber Courier, which is operational in 25 cities and has assisted over 5 million customers.
Response to Market Demand
Shiva Shailendran, Director of Consumer and Growth for Uber India South Asia, stated that Courier XL is a response to increasing demand from customers, particularly small businesses and households that require dependable means for moving larger items around the city. He emphasised that whether it’s inventory, furniture, or other significant parcels, Uber is dedicated to making large deliveries easier and more efficient.
Competitive Landscape
Courier XL will encounter competition from emerging on-demand delivery services like Porter, Borzo, and Mover. Notably, Porter recently completed a $200 million funding round, backed by private equity firms Kedaara Capital and Wellington Management, making it a key player in this sector that primarily serves MSMEs.
Growth in Deliveries
Uber reports that its Courier service experienced a growth rate exceeding 50% in 2024, with momentum continuing into the first quarter of 2025. Furthermore, the company saw its operating revenue in India increase by 41% for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, reaching Rs 3,762 crore. This growth is attributed to improvements in its ride-hailing services and advancements in its support and service operations.
