Vama has achieved remarkable growth in virtual spiritual services during the financial year ending March 2025. Despite this two-fold scale increase, the company faced a 33% rise in losses during the same timeframe.

As per provisional financial statements reviewed by Startup Superb, Vama’s operating revenue soared to Rs 19.5 crore in FY25, a significant increase from Rs 9.4 crore in FY24.

About Vama

Founded in late 2020 by Manu Jain and Acharya Dev, this Delhi-based startup offers virtual access to religious services. These include e-pujas, e-darshans, and astrology consultations. Vama reports having facilitated over 1.5 lakh astrology and puja services globally through its dedicated Android and iOS applications.

Revenue Generation

Vama primarily generates revenue through recharges and pooja bookings on its platform. Additionally, it reported some income from interest and income tax refunds, bringing the total revenue to Rs 19.66 crore in FY25.

Expenditure Breakdown

Marketing was identified as the leading cost factor, accounting for 40% of total expenses, which surged by 2.7 times to Rs 13.93 crore in FY25. The expenses related to employee benefits followed closely, amounting to Rs 6.58 crore during the same period.

The company’s direct costs, which include astrology services, puja offerings, and VIP astrologer fees, reached Rs 5.44 crore. Other overhead costs, encompassing legal fees, payment gateway charges, technology, and video production, contributed to Vama’s overall expenditure of Rs 31.8 crore in FY25, up from Rs 18.5 crore in FY24.

Loss Analysis

The robust growth enabled Vama to manage its losses, which increased by 33.3% to Rs 12 crore in FY25 compared to Rs 9 crore in FY24. As of March 2025, the company’s total current assets were valued at Rs 7.52 crore.

Funding and Competition

Vama has successfully raised a total of $2.9 million to date, including a $1.5 million seed round led by Wavemaker Partners in 2023. Recently, Vama’s competitor, AppsForBharat, created waves by securing $20 million in a Series C funding round. This company, led by Prashant Sachan, reported Rs 18.53 crore in operating revenue alongside a Rs 39 crore loss, with its FY25 results pending. Vama also faces competition from DevDham, Utsav App, Sutradhar, Ghar Mandir, and 27 Mantra.
