Adobe’s Generative AI Expansion in Firefly and Express
Adobe has initiated a significant expansion of generative AI within its Firefly and Express platforms, introducing an array of new models, applications, and features designed to ease content creation for both professionals and casual creators.
Introducing New Text-to-Image Models
At the Adobe Max 2025 conference, Adobe unveiled two advanced text-to-image models: Image Model 4 and Image Model 4 Ultra. These models are designed to deliver sharper visuals, improved prompt accuracy, and enhanced realism. Image Model 4 is focused on accelerating the generation of basic illustrations and objects, while Image Model 4 Ultra aims to create photorealistic portraits and intricate scenes.
According to Adobe’s announcement, these models provide greater fidelity and creative flexibility for Firefly users.
Firefly Goes Mobile with Third-Party AI Integration
The launch also marked the introduction of the very first Firefly mobile app, allowing users to access Adobe’s creative AI suite wherever they are. In addition, Adobe is extending Firefly’s capabilities to include third-party models, with current integrations featuring OpenAI, Google’s Veo 2, and Flux 1.1 Pro. Future collaborations with fal.ai, Ideogram, Luma, Pika, and Runway are also in development.
A newly revealed Vector Model enables designers to create editable vector artwork like logos, packaging, and scenes through natural language prompts.
Firefly Boards for Storyboarding and Concept Creation
Another important addition is Firefly Boards, a public beta tool for storyboard and concept development. Initially codenamed Project Concept, this tool allows users to delve into visual ideas through text-to-image generation, AI-enhanced refinements, and mood board editing, all within a single interface.
Public Release of Firefly Video Model
Following a preview last year, the Firefly Video model is now available to the public. This model supports text and image-driven video generation, facilitating the creation of custom b-roll, background visuals, and stylised edits, all powered by AI.
AI-Powered Enhancements in Adobe Express
Adobe Express is also experiencing a surge of AI enhancements aimed at video editors. The new Clip Maker tool converts lengthy videos into shareable clips, utilising AI to identify key moments and add captions or apply reframing.
Other notable features include:
- Enhance Speech: Eliminates background noise for improved audio clarity
- Video Self-Record: Allows self-filming within Adobe Express
- Drop Zone and Scene View: Facilitates bulk clip editing and timeline reorganisation
- Dynamic Animation: Converts still images into motion-rich content
Users can now seamlessly export their work to Vimeo, and enterprise clients can access a Generate Similar feature that produces on-brand variations based on a reference image. More than 30 new visual filters are also being introduced across the platform.
The entry-level subscription for Firefly starts at $9.99 per month (approximately ₹852), with various plans available for individuals, teams, and students.
As Adobe ventures further into the AI-enhanced creative landscape, the suite of updates across Firefly and Express signifies a major effort to make generative tools more user-friendly, intuitive, and professional-grade, accessible on both desktop and mobile platforms.
