AI Upgrade for Siri: Apple’s Transformative Voice Assistant

AI Upgrade for Siri is finally on the horizon, as Apple is set to introduce a highly anticipated enhancement to its voice assistant later this year. This update will elevate Siri into a smart assistant capable of handling both voice and text inputs. The transformation is expected to be announced during the WWDC 2026 event in June, according to reports from Bloomberg.

New Capabilities for Siri

The enhanced conversational abilities of Siri, which are known internally as “Campos,” will be integrated throughout Apple’s ecosystem, including devices like the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and others. This extensive rollout positions Apple to compete with rivals such as Google and OpenAI in the generative AI arena.

Siri’s Expanded Functions

The updated Siri will perform more complex functions, including retrieving information from the internet, creating content, generating images, summarising data, and a host of other tasks. Additionally, the revamped version of Siri is anticipated to be embedded in core applications such as Mail, Music, Podcasts, Photos, and more.

User Interaction with Siri

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg indicated that users will invoke the new service just as they currently do with Siri, by either speaking the Siri command or pressing the side button on their iPhone or iPad. He also mentioned that users might be able to request Siri to locate a photo using a description and modify it to match specific preferences, such as adjustments in cropping and colour.

Apple’s Position in the AI Race

If Apple introduces this chatbot version of Siri this year, it could potentially close the gap in the AI competition. Recently, Apple announced a collaboration with Google to integrate Gemini, aimed at enhancing the next release of Siri. It is expected that this update will be implemented in the upcoming iOS 26.4, while the more comprehensive transformation is planned for the next major iOS update. A preview of the upgrade is anticipated in June, although the official launch may not occur until September 2026.
