AirPods Max Audio Upgrade with Lossless Audio
AirPods Max are set to receive a significant audio enhancement with the addition of lossless audio and ultra-low latency capabilities. This update, which is expected to roll out next month through a software update, aims to elevate the listening experience for music, gaming, and music production.
The complimentary firmware update will launch in April, in conjunction with iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4, with Apple characterising it as the “ultimate listening experience.” This improvement will be available via a USB-C cable, promising users enhanced clarity and performance across diverse uses.
Enhanced Audio Features for AirPods Max
The forthcoming update will enable AirPods Max to support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio, ensuring the authenticity of original recordings and providing an almost studio-like experience for audiophiles. The enhanced Personalised Spatial Audio will also see advancements, allowing users to listen to over 100 million tracks in lossless audio on Apple Music, delivering a highly immersive and precise sound profile.
Apple emphasizes that lossless audio will enhance Personalised Spatial Audio, providing users with a sonically accurate, uncompressed, and immersive listening experience.
Targeting Music Professionals
This update further aims to cater to music professionals as the AirPods Max will become the only headphones that allow musicians to create and mix using Personalised Spatial Audio with head tracking when connected via USB-C. This innovation will improve workflows in Logic Pro and other music production applications, enabling artists to produce high-quality audio with reduced latency.
Apple stated that, “By delivering lossless, high-resolution digital audio with low latency, artists can seamlessly record and mix with AirPods Max without compromising fidelity.”
Perfect for Gamers and Livestreamers
In addition to appealing to music creators, Apple markets the new features as beneficial for gamers and livestreamers. The ultra-low latency audio is expected to match the response times of built-in speakers on Mac, iPad, and iPhone, providing a seamless, immersive experience with nearly no lag.
The software update will be offered as a free firmware enhancement for AirPods Max equipped with USB-C. Available in five stylish colours: midnight, starlight, blue, purple, and orange, these premium headphones are priced at INR 59,900. They can be purchased at apple.com/in/store, the Apple Store app, and from Apple Authorised Resellers.
