Kruti: India’s First Agentic AI Assistant by Krutrim

Kruti, the pioneering agentic AI assistant from Krutrim, India’s first AI unicorn, is set to redefine the landscape of digital interaction. Unlike traditional chatbots, Kruti is built to transition from simple conversations to proactive task management, enabling users to undertake actions such as booking rides, ordering meals, and managing payments seamlessly.

This launch signifies a notable enhancement from Krutrim’s earlier public beta chatbot, which was unveiled in 2023. With Kruti, the organisation aims to provide a revitalised assistant experience that emphasises advanced reasoning skills and personalisation.

Kruti’s Unique Position in India’s AI Landscape

While India is witnessing an increase in conversational AI platforms, Kruti distinguishes itself by aspiring to deliver genuine agentic capabilities. However, the potential of such functionalities, especially without established consumer traction, is yet to be examined. The company is reportedly engaging with multiple entities to realise Kruti’s functionalities, but the lukewarm market reception of various other Indian LLM-based platforms raises concerns about monetisation and scalability.

Industry Insights from Bhavish Aggarwal

During the launch, Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-founder and CEO of Ola Consumer, as well as the founder of Ola Electric and Krutrim, emphasised the necessity for a strong AI ecosystem in India.

Aggarwal stated that “India requires more AI enterprises—10, 20, the greater the number, the better.” However, he added that each company must address its own traction challenges, indicating the competitive nature of the industry.

Investment Plans and Funding History

Aggarwal disclosed that over ₹2,000 crore has already been invested in Krutrim, with ambitions to inject up to ₹10,000 crore by the following year. The company previously secured $50 million in a funding round led by Matrix Partners India, a significant supporter of Aggarwal’s prior initiatives, including Ola Cabs and Ola Electric.

Krutrim’s Participation in Government Initiatives

When questioned about whether Ola Krutrim is associated with the government’s IndiaAI Mission, Aggarwal confirmed that the company is submitting an application as part of the current cohort.

As the AI competition in India intensifies, stakeholders will be keen to see if Kruti can fulfil its ambitious promises and if users are prepared to allow an AI assistant to act on their behalf.
