Crystalgold: The Revolutionary Spirit by Chivas Regal
Crystalgold is a groundbreaking spirit introduced by Chivas Regal, presenting a clear creation derived from aged Scotch whisky that has lost its signature amber colour. This launch is a bold move to redefine the way whisky is experienced and enjoyed, featuring a lighter character intended for evening occasions typically associated with gin or tequila.
Regarded by the brand as a “revolutionary, game-changing innovation”, Crystalgold made its first appearance at the Singapore Grand Prix this week. This unveiling coincided with Chivas Regal’s partnership with its global ambassador and Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc, who also assisted in creating a cocktail named the Leclerc Spritz—a revitalising mix of Crystalgold, citrus, elderflower, mint, sparkling wine, and soda.
The creation is led by Chivas Regal’s master blender Sandy Hyslop, a seasoned expert with over forty years of experience in the field.
Crafted using traditional Scotch methods, this clear spirit is aged in oak casks that infuse flavours of vanilla, apple, citrus, and light spice. Following this, it undergoes a meticulous carbon filtration process that eliminates colour while preserving the richness of flavour. The outcome is a spirit with an appearance akin to vodka but the depth and complexity typical of an oak-aged Scotch. Nevertheless, because of whisky regulations, Crystalgold cannot be officially classified as Scotch and is instead referred to as a ‘spirit drink’. Chivas, however, views it as a natural progression in the whisky category rather than a departure from it.
Visually, the packaging reflects the name of the product: clear glass adorned with gold accents that refract light akin to crystal. Chivas Regal plans to make Crystalgold available exclusively through premium venues and select retailers to uphold its exclusivity.
