Perplexity AI: WhatsApp Chatbot Integration
Perplexity AI is now available as a WhatsApp chatbot. This new functionality was revealed by Co-founder and CEO Aravind Srinivas on LinkedIn, shortly after a poll was conducted to gauge user interest in integrating with WhatsApp.
This addition follows previous launches of Perplexity’s chatbot on Telegram, identified as “askplexbot,” and on X, formerly recognised as Twitter. This marks a significant development towards making cutting-edge AI tools easily obtainable across widely-used platforms.
No need for Sign Ups or Account Creation
Unlike the main Perplexity app that requires users to register or log in, the WhatsApp version eliminates all barriers. Users can pose questions, research subjects, summarise information, and even create custom images, all without needing to set up an account or download another application. This approach also reduces the local storage and data consumption on devices.
To begin using Perplexity AI, users should save the number +1 (833) 436-3285 to their contacts and start a chat on WhatsApp. Alternatively, they can locate the number directly within the app and initiate a chat. This experience is in line with current interactions users have with ChatGPT or Meta AI on the platform.
New features coming soon
While users can currently enjoy free research and answer functionalities, Srinivas shared that additional features are imminent. Future updates are set to introduce:
- Voice interactions
- Memes
- Video generation
- Fact-checking tools
- Assistant-style guidance
- Group chat integration (pending WhatsApp API support)
These enhancements could convert Perplexity into a comprehensive AI assistant, seamlessly integrated within a chat environment familiar to billions around the globe.
Available Across Devices
Perplexity AI on WhatsApp can be accessed through:
- Smartphones
- Desktops and laptops
- WhatsApp Web
As messaging applications increasingly dominate communication and service access, the WhatsApp integration of Perplexity lowers the entry barrier to AI tools, particularly in regions like India, where WhatsApp is pivotal to daily digital interactions.
