Design & Build

HP has evidently invested thought into both aesthetics and functionality with this laptop. Weighing 1.38kg, the chassis feels lightweight enough for daily commuting while remaining sturdy in hand. The sandblasted anodized finish and the Atmospheric Blue colour give it a professional yet modern appearance.

The 360-degree hinge allows easy transitions between laptop, tent, stand, and tablet modes. At this weight, the tablet mode is most suitable for short usage or desk applications rather than extended handheld usage.

Constructed with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, the durability of this laptop is commendable, although dropping it is not recommended to validate HP’s durability claims.

Display

The keys are appropriately sized and spaced, allowing for comfortable typing. Navigating the touchpad was also straightforward, with smooth clicks and reliable gestures.

Performance & AI Features

The Intel Core Ultra 7 258V effectively caters to demanding workloads. Running numerous browser tabs, participating in video calls, editing documents, and dabbling in photo editing was managed effortlessly. The 32GB LPDDR5X RAM ensures smooth multitasking, while the 1TB PCIe Gen4 SSD facilitates rapid file transfers and application launches.

Intel Arc handles graphics adequately for light creative tasks and casual gaming. However, for more intensive 3D rendering or high-end gaming, this laptop may start to show limitations, which were not a primary concern during testing.

Notably, the OmniBook X Flip surprises with its AI capabilities. The onboard NPU (with up to 47 TOPS) enhances tasks like real-time transcription, background blurring, and camera auto-framing. HP’s Smart Sense does an excellent job of balancing performance, thermal efficiency, and battery longevity based on real-time usage.

The 5MP IR webcam is a significant improvement over typical 720p/1080p laptop cameras. It produces sharp and well-lit video, facilitating quick and reliable Windows Hello face unlock.

Yet, audio performance has been slightly disappointing. Although the front-firing DTS:X Ultra speakers are clear, they lack depth and richness. They are suitable for podcasts or YouTube videos but using headphones for music or films is often preferable.

Charging speeds are rapid, with 50% of battery capacity restored in about half an hour. Additionally, HP includes a Battery Health Manager, allowing users to limit charging to 80% for improved long-term battery longevity.

After substantial usage, it is clear that the HP OmniBook X Flip 14 successfully balances premium aesthetics, a stunning OLED display, and advanced AI features. It is lightweight for portability, powerful enough for demanding tasks, and adaptable as a tablet when required.
