India’s First Indigenously Developed Semiconductor Chip by 2025

Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has announced that the first semiconductor chip developed in India will enter production by 2025. During a video conference on the second day of the Global Investors Summit 2025 in Bhopal, Vaishnaw emphasized the significant advancements India has made in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, a sector that has flourished under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to Vaishnaw, the debut of the ‘Made in India’ semiconductor chip is set for 2025.

Madhya Pradesh’s Electronics Manufacturing Boom

Madhya Pradesh is becoming a crucial centre for electronics manufacturing, with notable progress spurred by various government initiatives. Vaishnaw acknowledged the contributions of PM Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in propelling the state’s industrial growth. The state has received approval for two electronic manufacturing clusters: one in Bhopal and another in Jabalpur, creating a supportive framework for technological advancements. Presently, 85 companies are actively involved in electronics manufacturing in the region.

To enhance the industry further, the government has launched the Future Skills Programme, targeting the training of 20,000 engineers in advanced electronics and semiconductor manufacturing. Vaishnaw highlighted that over the last ten years, India’s electronics manufacturing sector has experienced remarkable growth, now valued at ₹10 lakh crore. India’s electronic exports have grown to ₹5 lakh crore, with mobile phones representing ₹4 lakh crore of that total, while the remaining figure includes laptops, servers, telecom equipment, as well as defence and medical electronics. He remarked that electronics are now among the top three export categories for India.

Strengthening India’s Semiconductor Capabilities

Vaishnaw underscored that India has made significant strides in semiconductor manufacturing, with five units concurrently under construction. The introduction of the first Made-in-India semiconductor chip by 2025 is a remarkable achievement in the nation’s technological progress. To ensure a robust talent pipeline, a programme has been initiated to train 85,000 engineers in advanced semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.

Vaishnaw credited PM Modi’s leadership for the advancements made in the electronics sector and congratulated CM Mohan Yadav along with the citizens of Madhya Pradesh for their accomplishments. He also conveyed his warm wishes to everyone for Mahashivratri.
