In a recent post on social media, Pei emphasised the country’s potential for advancement, driven by governmental initiatives for local manufacturing, a vibrant tech environment, and a growing consumer market.

According to Pei, India is currently at a pivotal point in the smartphone industry, poised for a substantial upheaval. He mentioned, “With the government’s emphasis on local production, a flourishing tech ecosystem, and a continuously enlarging consumer base, India possesses all the necessary components to emerge as a global leader in smartphones.” Furthermore, he drew attention to the government’s initiatives aimed at fostering homegrown mobile brands, thereby reinforcing the country’s competitive edge in the international arena.
Nothing’s Commitment to India
Pei’s observations highlight Nothing’s determination to deepen its footprint in India, which has now become the brand’s largest market. He has previously conveyed optimism regarding India’s role in the broader smartphone industry, especially as growth in China exhibits signs of deceleration. In prior discussions, Pei expressed a solid belief in India’s potential by saying, “With the China narrative slowing significantly, there is a strong positive outlook on India.”

Nothing’s rapid expansion in India underlines the brand’s strategic significance in the region. In the third quarter of 2024, the company achieved an impressive 510% year-over-year increase in shipments, making it the fastest-growing smartphone brand in the Indian market. This accomplishment stands out, especially considering that Chinese brands capture nearly 80% of the market share, while Samsung and Apple hold smaller portions.

Since its introduction in 2021, Nothing has quickly gained recognition, with the launch of its Phone (1) in 2022 acting as a crucial milestone for the brand.
