JioHotstar, the latest joint venture by Viacom18 and Star India, has officially made its debut, merging JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar into one platform. This initiative aims to provide a vast array of entertainment, sports, and innovative technology to over 500 million users.

The platform boasts an impressive 300,000 hours of viewing material. This includes blockbuster films from Bollywood and Hollywood, original series, live sports events, as well as anime. JioHotstar intends to enhance user experience with AI-driven content suggestions, offering streaming across more than 19 languages.
Vision for Accessibility
Kiran Mani, CEO – Digital, JioStar, discussed the launch, stating that JioHotstar’s mission is to ensure premium entertainment is within reach for every Indian. The vision focuses on Infinite Possibilities, transforming entertainment into a communal experience rather than a privilege. By integrating AI features and multilingual streaming, JioHotstar is personalising user experiences like never before.
Subscription Plans and Free Access
In a departure from previous models, JioHotstar will permit users to access free content without requiring a subscription. For those seeking uninterrupted viewing, subscription options commence at ₹149 per quarter. Current subscribers of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar can transition to JioHotstar with ease and without any additional complications.
Diverse Content Offering
The content roster on JioHotstar includes a remarkable selection, featuring:
- Major Hollywood Studios: Disney, NBCUniversal Peacock, Warner Bros. Discovery HBO, and Paramount
- Regional and Bollywood Films: Movies and television programmes in various Indian dialects
- Exclusive Originals and Reality Series: A combination of dramas, thrillers, and engaging reality shows

The platform is also introducing ‘Sparks,’ a unique initiative that celebrates India’s top digital creators.
