Kabuni, a sports technology and AI firm based in the UK, has officially introduced its services in India, aiming to provide advanced cricket coaching that is accessible to all young athletes. The launch, announced in Kolkata, seeks to transform ordinary practice sessions into learning experiences driven by data via the company’s technology platform and a dedicated device.
At the core of the platform lies an AI system that has been trained on years of cricket footage, biomechanics, and coaching principles. It can analyse batting and bowling techniques in detail and offer personalised insights via video, images, text, and voice. Players can capture their training sessions in various locations—whether on the streets, at practice nets, or on school grounds—and receive immediate, custom feedback aimed at accelerating their development.
Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of the Indian cricket team and Kabuni’s Global Brand Ambassador, expressed that quality coaching enables children to learn efficiently, faster, and lead healthier lifestyles. This level of coaching, he noted, was previously reserved for professionals but is now available for everyone.
Co-founder and CFO Patrick Badenoch emphasised that Kabuni’s mission is to make structured coaching universally accessible. He mentioned that whether on streets, schoolyards, nets, or cricket pitches, Kabuni empowers every player to document their gameplay, obtain personalised feedback, and relish the experience of progress.
Developed in collaboration with Cambridge Design Partnership, the system prioritises precision and safety, catering to learners from grassroots to elite levels. Cricket serves as the initial offering, with plans to branch into tennis, golf, badminton, table tennis, and other sports, establishing a multi-sport ecosystem that encompasses performance, wellness, and routine fitness.
Ganguly reiterated the cultural significance of this initiative, stating that cricket is not just a sport in India; it is akin to a religion. He highlighted that Kabuni is the first digital ecosystem globally to capture real-world play through sports, starting with cricket. This platform will integrate play into learning, allowing every player to uncover the athlete within.
Founder and CEO Nimesh Patel underlined the broader objective, stating that India is entering a pivotal era for sports and Kabuni’s mission is to motivate one billion individuals to engage in physical activity and adopt healthier lifestyles within the next decade. Moreover, one per cent of all revenue generated in India will be allocated to grassroots sporting initiatives.
