Dimensity 9400e Chipset Launch from MediaTek
MediaTek has introduced the Dimensity 9400e chipset in China, a robust mobile processor aimed at rivaling Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. The Dimensity 9400e represents an advanced version of the previous year’s Dimensity 9300+ and brings significant enhancements in performance, graphics, connectivity, and AI processing.
Specifications and Architecture of Dimensity 9400e
Built on TSMC’s cutting-edge third-generation 4nm process, the Dimensity 9400e boasts an “All Big Core” CPU architecture. This includes one Cortex-X4 prime core operating at 3.4GHz, three Cortex-X4 performance cores reaching up to 2.85GHz, and four Cortex-A720 performance cores clocking at 2.0GHz. In addition, it features a 12-core Arm Immortalis-G720 GPU, which delivers hardware-level mobile ray tracing and advanced graphical capabilities such as Dimensity Frame Double Technology 2.0+ and Star Speed Engine Adaptive Control 2.0.
AI Integration in Dimensity 9400e
At the core of the chipset lies AI functionality, supported by MediaTek’s APU 790 and the Dimensity AI development kit. This allows on-device operation of several prominent large language models (LLMs), such as DeepSeek-R1-Distill, LLaVA-1.5 7B, Qwen1.5B, Llama7B, and Llama8B. The chipset also ensures compatibility with Google’s Gemini Nano models, featuring multimodal capabilities and positioning it as an excellent choice for generative AI functions directly on mobile devices.
Imaging and Visual Capabilities
The Dimensity 9400e is designed to support advanced imaging features through the Imagiq 990 ISP, allowing integration with camera sensors of up to 320 megapixels. Furthermore, it can capture video at resolutions as high as 8K at 30fps or 4K at 60fps. It further supports WQHD displays at 180Hz and 4K displays at 120Hz, ensuring ultra-smooth visual experiences.
Connectivity Features of Dimensity 9400e
Connectivity stands out as a strong point for the chipset. It supports 5G (both Sub-6GHz and mmWave), Wi-Fi 7 with tri-band concurrency, achieving theoretical speeds of up to 7.3Gbps, and Bluetooth 6.0 with a dual-engine architecture capable of maintaining connections over distances of up to 5km in a direct line of sight. Global navigation support is also included, covering satellite systems like GPS, NavIC, BeiDou, and Galileo.
Upcoming Smartphones Featuring Dimensity 9400e
The first smartphones incorporating the Dimensity 9400e are anticipated to launch later this month. Realme plans to unveil the Realme GT 7 in India on 27 May, while OnePlus is set to introduce the OnePlus Ace 5 Racing Edition in China. Reports suggest that Realme is also looking to integrate the chipset into the forthcoming Realme Neo7 Turbo.
