Dimensity 9400+ Chipset Unveiled by MediaTek
MediaTek has introduced the Dimensity 9400+, its latest mobile chipset designed for flagship devices, enhancing performance and bolstering on-device AI functionalities. This chipset is a refined iteration of the previous year’s Dimensity 9400, focusing on delivering quicker AI processing, enhanced power efficiency, and an overall premium user experience for high-end Android devices.
Core Architecture of the Dimensity 9400+
At the heart of the Dimensity 9400+ lies an “All Big Core” CPU architecture, featuring one Arm Cortex-X925 core operating at speeds of up to 3.73GHz, an upgrade from the 3.63GHz in the earlier model. Accompanying this are three Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores, all engineered to enhance both single-threaded and multithreaded performance, meeting the demands of resource-intensive applications.
Advanced AI Capabilities
A standout feature of the chipset is the MediaTek NPU 890, which endorses support for contemporary large language models (LLMs) alongside advanced AI methods such as Mixture-of-Experts (MoE), Multi-Token Prediction (MTP), Multi-Head Latent Attention (MLA), and FP8 inferencing. MediaTek claims that there is a 20% boost in agentic AI performance, facilitated by the innovative Speculative Decoding+ (SpD+) technology. Furthermore, the inclusion of the Dimensity Agentic AI Engine (DAE) aims to streamline the development of agentic AI applications, which the company foresees as a pivotal trend in 2025.
Statements on Enhanced User Experience
JC Hsu, the Corporate Senior Vice President at MediaTek, noted that the Dimensity 9400+ will facilitate the provision of innovative, personalised AI experiences directly on devices, while also enhancing overall performance to manage all tasks effortlessly.
Gaming Enhancements
In addition, MediaTek has upgraded the gaming experience with innovative graphic features, particularly through the 12-core Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU. This GPU supports capabilities like opacity micromap (OMM), which enables more realistic rendering of objects such as foliage, hair, and feathers. Moreover, MediaTek has introduced MFRC 2.0+, a new frame rate conversion technology that has been developed in collaboration with game developers, aimed at doubling effective FPS and improving power efficiency by up to 40%.
Imaging Technology
For imaging, the Dimensity 9400+ is equipped with the MediaTek Imagiq 1090 ISP, which supports HDR video capture across the entire zoom range. The chipset also features Smooth Zoom technology, enhancing tracking accuracy of moving subjects and enabling isolated image and audio capture in dynamic scenes.
Connectivity Options
The connectivity capabilities include support for Wi-Fi 7, featuring tri-band concurrency alongside MediaTek’s Xtra Range 3.0, which ensures extended Wi-Fi coverage of up to 30 metres. The chipset supports dual active 5G/4G SIMs, UFS 4 storage, LPDDR5X RAM at rates up to 10,667 Mbps, and Bluetooth 6.0 with direct phone-to-phone connections spanning distances of up to 10 km. Additionally, BeiDou satellite support is present, providing a 33% faster time to first fix even without cellular service.
Targeted Upgrades of the Dimensity 9400+
While many features from the original Dimensity 9400 are retained, the 9400+ is perceived as a more refined version, specifically tailored for enhancements in AI and gaming workloads. The first smartphones with the Dimensity 9400+ chipset are anticipated to launch later this month.
