Meta Platforms Secures AI Chips from Google in Multi-Billion Dollar Deal
Meta Platforms is embarking on an agreement to lease Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) chips in a multi-billion dollar contract. These chips are expected to facilitate the creation of advanced AI models. This collaboration emerges during a time when there is an escalating demand for AI chips and essential infrastructure globally.
Although The Information was the first to report on this deal, neither Meta nor Google has confirmed or commented on the engagement. The report also highlighted that the social media titan is in discussions to purchase Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) aimed at enhancing its data centres.
Google’s New Initiative
Furthermore, Google has initiated a partnership with a leading investment firm to establish a joint venture, enabling the tech behemoth to lease its specialised AI chips to various companies or customers.
Back in December 2025, Google was noted for expanding its Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) as a substitute for Nvidia’s GPUs. In its pursuit to reassure investors regarding its AI expenditures, TPU sales have allegedly become one of its most persuasive arguments, as reported by Reuters.
Strategic Investment Partnership
With this new investment partnership, Google is evidently intensifying its role as a foundational infrastructure provider for AI chips, extending beyond merely its own products.
Meta’s Chip Acquisition Strategy
While awaiting an official confirmation, Meta has been actively securing chips, recently signing an agreement to procure processors from AMD valued at up to $60 billion. Additionally, the social media enterprise has established a separate deal with Nvidia for its upcoming AI chips.
This indicates that Meta is shaping one of the most aggressive and diverse chip portfolios within the industry to support its AI initiatives.
