AI Assistant Introduced in Facebook Dating
Meta has revealed the introduction of an AI assistant within Facebook Dating, providing users with innovative tools to tailor their matching experience and personalise their connections.
The AI chatbot can be instructed to search for particular types of matches, such as a tech-savvy individual from Brooklyn, and can even offer tips for enhancing a user’s profile. Meta aims to assist users in filtering through the options and connecting with individuals who more closely align with their preferences.
Tackling Swipe Fatigue with Meet Cute
In conjunction with the AI assistant, Meta is launching a fresh feature known as Meet Cute, which presents a weekly surprise match derived from the platform’s algorithm. This functionality is intended to address the issue of swipe fatigue, a common criticism associated with contemporary dating applications.
Growing Traction Among Younger Users
Meta disclosed that the rate of matches on Facebook Dating for users aged 18 to 29 has experienced a growth of 10% year-over-year, with numerous new profiles added in that age group every month. However, the platform’s reach remains limited compared to competitors. Tinder boasts approximately 50 million daily active users, while Hinge stands at around 10 million.
AI Competition Heats Up in Dating Apps
This initiative by Meta aligns with a larger trend of dating services incorporating AI technology. Match Group, which owns Tinder, Hinge, and OKCupid, collaborated with OpenAI last year as part of a significant investment exceeding $20 million in AI capabilities. Tinder now features an AI photo selector, Hinge employs AI to enhance responses to profile prompts, and Bumble has integrated its own AI-driven functionalities.
Whitney Wolfe Herd, Bumble’s founder, even suggested that in the future, personal AI concierges may take on the role of “dating” on behalf of users to assess compatibility before a face-to-face meeting.
