Netflix to Stream Live NASA Rocket Launches and Spacewalks

Live Space Programming with Netflix and NASA

Live space programming is set to become a reality as Netflix and NASA have unveiled a new partnership, bringing viewers an exciting array of content later this summer. Subscribers will have the opportunity to experience ad-free livestreams showcasing rocket launches, astronaut spacewalks, mission coverage, and real-time views of Earth from the International Space Station. This content will be available through NASA+, the dedicated streaming platform launched by the space agency in 2023.

Accessing NASA+ on Netflix

The NASA+ programming will be offered to Netflix users at no extra cost. This initiative signifies Netflix’s latest attempt to diversify its live content beyond its usual focus on in-house productions, stand-up comedy specials, award ceremonies, and sporting events. Recent additions have included live WWE programming, celebrity golf tournaments, and a collaboration with France’s TF1, aimed at streaming reality competitions and sporting events.

Nasa’s Strategy for Digital Engagement

For NASA, this partnership is part of a larger strategy to broaden its presence on major digital platforms. The agency is focused on making its contributions to science and space exploration more accessible and engaging for worldwide audiences. In an official statement, NASA conveyed that the collaboration with Netflix aims to “increase engagement with and inspire a global audience in a modern media landscape,” utilizing the platform’s extensive reach of over 700 million individuals globally.

Even with this collaboration, NASA+ will still operate independently and remain freely available through the agency’s official website and app. This app can be downloaded on various devices, including iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV.
