OnePlus 13s: The Return of Compact Flagships

Compact flagships are making a comeback with the launch of the OnePlus 13s, a remarkable device that’s captured attention in the smartphone market. After using the OnePlus 13s for nearly a month, it is clear that well-crafted smaller phones have significant advantages.

OnePlus 13s Design

The OnePlus 13s boasts a highly portable design, measuring just 8.15mm in thickness and weighing 185g. While these specifications may seem average, the weight distribution is nearly perfect, making it one of the most comfortable devices to hold. The premium glass back adds a touch of luxury, offering a pleasant experience even without a protective case. An accidental scratch on the back glass disappeared easily with a simple wipe, showcasing the device’s resilient design.

On the side, the beloved alert slider is no more, making way for the new ‘Plus Key.’ This innovative addition functions similarly to the Action Button on iPhones, allowing for customisation to perform tasks like toggling the flashlight, switching sound modes, taking screenshots, or accessing the new ‘Mind Space’ feature, among others.

OnePlus 13s Display

The OnePlus 13s features a 6.32-inch 1.5K AMOLED ProXDR display that is truly impressive. Supporting a refresh rate ranging from 1-120Hz and boasting a maximum brightness of 1600 nits, the device performs exceptionally in bright environments. Colour accuracy has been notable during extended viewing sessions. For instance, watching episodes of The Last Of Us on the OnePlus 13s proved to be an engaging experience.

This device also excels in wet conditions, thanks to its Aqua Touch 2.0 functionality. During an accidental spill by the sink, the phone performed seamlessly, allowing for calls and text messages without any touch issues.

OnePlus 13s Camera

Equipped with two rear cameras, the OnePlus 13s deviates from the typical main and ultrawide lens setup. Instead, it features a 50MP main lens complemented by a 50MP 2x telephoto camera. The primary camera, with a 1/1.56-inch Sony LYT-700 sensor and a fast f/1.8 aperture, delivers impressive results in varying lighting conditions. Captured portraits exhibit natural beauty, even in challenging environments, demonstrated during a visit to a Harry Potter x Miniso installation.

However, the absence of an ultrawide camera might raise some eyebrows, particularly for a flagship in this price range.

OnePlus AI

The AI capabilities on the OnePlus 13s are vastly enhanced compared to previous models. Features like AI Eraser and AI Unblur support improved photo quality. A standout feature, AI Recompose, allows for automatic realignment of shots post-capture, greatly benefiting those who struggle with composition.

Furthermore, the new Plus Mind feature serves as a personal AI companion, easily set up with the Plus Key or by swiping up with three fingers. It captures screenshots, saves them to Mind Space, and analyses visible content. Essentially, it acts as a digital journal, suggesting relevant notes or calendar entries, enhancing productivity through intuitive reminders. OnePlus envisions further functionality upgrades for this AI in the future.

The introduction of AI Search, a more conversational evolution of Intelligent Search, further enriches the user experience. Additionally, the integration of Gemini introduces exciting features such as Circle to Search and Gemini Live.

OnePlus 13s Performance

The OnePlus 13s is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, ensuring robust performance for any task. During testing, including multiple AI features and gaming sessions, the phone displayed consistent responsiveness without lag or performance dips. Notably, it features a substantial 4,400mm2 3D Cryo-Velocity Vapor Chamber, effectively managing heat during rigorous use, even under the demanding Delhi summer.

OnePlus 13s Battery

The battery life of the OnePlus 13s impressed during testing. With a 5850mAh capacity, this device remains reliable throughout the day, defying expectations for smaller phones. Moreover, the standard 80W fast charging ensures quick power replenishment. The inclusion of Bypass Charging allows direct power from the charger to the phone, maintaining battery health during intense gaming sessions.

Should You Buy OnePlus 13s?

The OnePlus 13s stands as a top-tier option, starting at ₹54,999. It combines a premium design, impressive battery longevity, valuable AI features, and competent optics, making it appealing for anyone in search of a powerful compact phone. Anticipation builds for the next iteration of the “S” series from OnePlus.

OnePlus 13s Availability

Available in Green Silk, Black Velvet, and Pink Satin, the OnePlus 13s costs ₹54,999 for the 12+256GB variant. The Green and Black models also offer a 12+512GB version priced at ₹59,999. The device will open for sales on June 12, 2025, accessible via OnePlus.in, the OnePlus Store App, Amazon.in, and various offline retail partners.
