PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Price Increase in India
Sony has recently implemented a price increase for the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition in India, just weeks after similar adjustments were made in several markets including the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The cost of the digital-only console has risen by ₹5,000, moving from ₹44,990 to ₹49,990, as noted on Sony’s official ShopAtSC website.
The price adjustment was first highlighted by the tipster High Chaos Run and has been verified through official listings. However, Sony has yet to provide a public statement regarding this change in pricing. The PS5 Disc Edition remains available at ₹54,990, while the Fortnite bundle of the Digital Edition is still listed at the former price of ₹44,990, creating further confusion about the pricing inconsistency.
Previously, the company attributed similar price increases in various regions to what was described as a challenging economic landscape, citing factors such as high inflation, currency variations, and macroeconomic instability as pivotal reasons for these changes.
Historical Pricing Adjustments for the PS5
This is not the first instance where Sony has modified PS5 pricing. During a recent Summer Sale, both the PS5 Digital and Disc Editions were temporarily offered at ₹39,990 and ₹49,990, respectively, which is significantly lower than their current prices.
Retail Pricing Updates and Sales Performance
Interestingly, third-party retailers like Amazon and Flipkart have not yet revised their prices for the digital edition. Additionally, accessories such as the DualSense controller and Pulse 3D headset have not experienced any price changes to date.
Sony’s recent price adjustments come at a time when the company is experiencing a slowdown in sales growth. During its earnings call in May, Sony reported a total of 18.5 million PS5 units sold globally in FY24, down from 20.8 million units sold in the previous year.
