Samsung Partners with Perplexity AI for Innovative Mobile Experience

Samsung is on the brink of establishing a comprehensive partnership with Perplexity AI, a move that could revolutionise artificial intelligence functionality on its devices while decreasing dependence on Google. A report from Bloomberg indicates that the South Korean technology titan is nearing final negotiations to include Perplexity’s AI-driven search application and assistant on upcoming Galaxy smartphones, starting with the Galaxy S26 series in early 2026.

Integration of AI Technology into Samsung Devices

This agreement is expected to encompass the incorporation of Perplexity’s search technology into the Samsung Internet browser. Additionally, there may be prospects for enhancements to Bixby, Samsung’s virtual assistant. While final details are yet to be settled, an official announcement is anticipated later this year.

A Strategic Shift in AI Collaboration

Beyond the preinstallation of an application, this collaboration suggests a more extensive strategic direction. Samsung and Perplexity are also considering the co-development of an AI-powered operating system, along with a multi-assistant application that would enable users to access Perplexity alongside various other AI tools. This development underscores Samsung’s ambition to create a more AI-centric software experience throughout its ecosystem.

Investment and Financial Backing

As part of the collaboration, Samsung is poised to engage in Perplexity’s upcoming funding round. The AI startup reportedly aims to raise $500 million at a valuation of $14 billion. Should this partnership be finalised, Samsung would emerge as one of the startup’s major investors, providing both significant financial support and immense exposure to Samsung’s expansive global user base.

Diversification of AI Partnerships

This partnership occurs as Samsung broadens its AI initiatives. While the company maintains a close relationship with Google—integrating features such as Circle to Search and Gemini into its recent Galaxy devices—it is now seemingly adopting a multi-partner approach to AI, echoing strategies similar to those of Apple. Notably, Apple has also engaged in preliminary discussions with Perplexity. During a testimony at Google’s antitrust trial, Apple’s services chief Eddy Cue stated, “There has been considerable admiration for Perplexity’s accomplishments,” confirming initial discussions.

The Road Ahead for Samsung and Perplexity

For Perplexity, which has recently collaborated with Motorola to deploy its AI assistant on Razr and Edge 60 smartphones, a partnership with Samsung would signify a significant achievement in its quest for mainstream recognition. For Samsung, this step offers an opportunity to reshape its software and assistant functionalities as AI becomes an increasingly integral part of mobile innovation.

If the partnership goes as planned, the Galaxy S26—set to debut in the first half of 2026—would be the premier Samsung flagship to feature Perplexity’s application and assistant as standard options. This could also represent a pivotal moment in the ongoing AI competition among smartphone manufacturers.
