Sony has revealed a price increase for the PlayStation 5 gaming consoles in several regions. The company has attributed this decision to “challenging” economic factors, likely influenced by the current tariff situation initiated by US President Donald Trump.

A variety of regions have been impacted by the price increase on one of the world’s most sought-after gaming consoles. Below are the updated recommended retail prices (RRP) for the PS5:

• Europe: €499.99 (PS5 Digital Edition); No changes for the standard PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive
• UK: £429.99 (PS5 Digital Edition); No changes for the standard PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive
• Australia: AUD 749.95 (PS5 Digital Edition); AUD 829.95 (standard PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive)
• New Zealand: NZD 859.95 (PS5 Digital Edition); NZD 949.95 (standard PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive)

In a blog post, Sony expressed that this “tough decision” was necessary due to high inflation and varying exchange rates. However, India remains unaffected by the PS5 price increase at this time. Additionally, the pricing for the PS5 Pro has not changed.

Updated Pricing for PS5 Disc Drive

The RRP for the PS5 Disc Drive has seen a reduction. The new prices are:

• UK: £69.99
• Australia: AUD 124.95
• New Zealand: NZD 139.95

This is not the first instance of Sony increasing prices for the PS5. The gaming console experienced its initial price hike in 2022, and this latest adjustment further elevates the PS5’s cost in numerous regions.
