The original Vision Pro was unveiled in June 2023 and made available in 2024 at a price tag of $3,500. This headset introduced Apple’s vision of spatial computing but faced backlash due to its steep price and bulky design. Initially, Apple planned only a simple upgrade to the Vision Pro that would swap its internal M2 chip for an M5. However, due to enterprise users indicating concerns about latency in wireless scenarios, the decision to pivot to a tethered headset signifies a shift in Apple’s priorities for professional engagement.
Long-Term Vision for Augmented Reality Glasses
These advancements are part of what Gurman refers to as CEO Tim Cook’s broader vision of eventually launching lightweight augmented reality glasses suitable for all-day wear.
