Her New Dating Rulebook: A Shift in Modern Dating
This International Women’s Day, Tinder has introduced ‘Her New Dating Rulebook,’ an innovative guide that challenges traditional dating customs, particularly the belief that men should always pay on first dates. The dating platform suggests that the old custom of men covering costs may be on the brink of becoming obsolete.
Embracing Change in Dating Norms
The dating landscape is evolving rapidly, with Tinder discovering that a notable number of young women in India are adopting a more progressive and relaxed attitude. An in-app survey indicates that 38% of female users are primarily interested in new experiences, while 29% express a desire for reduced pressure regarding the quest for a ‘happily ever after.’
Prioritising Authentic Connections
The new rulebook emphasises the importance of genuine connections, authenticity, and mutual respect over age-old romantic gestures. According to Tinder’s insights, modern chivalry is defined by reliability and sincere care rather than mere symbolic actions. For example, 51% of young female users consider being dependable, such as honouring commitments for meetings or calls, to hold more significance than traditional gestures, like paying for a first date.
Insights from Industry Leaders
Shweta Mantri, Head of Rider Verticals at Uber India and South Asia, highlighted the shift by stating that modern dating involves rethinking established standards. It’s no longer solely about antiquated gestures but rather about cultivating genuine respect and authentic connections. Women today tend to favour mutual care over outdated practices, supporting relationships that genuinely resonate. She advocates for celebrating this new chapter where every relationship is founded on the freedom to choose what is right.
Safety as a Priority
Safety remains a fundamental aspect of Tinder’s guidelines. More than half of female users indicated they would immediately unmatch if faced with inappropriate messages. To enforce safety, the dating site has enhanced measures through features like ‘Are You Sure?’, ‘Does This Bother You?’, and ‘Share My Date’, aimed at fostering respectful interactions and ensuring that safety is ingrained in every dating interaction.
Value of Authenticity in Profiles
Highlighting the significance of authenticity, Tinder reports that 53% of female users dismiss incomplete or misleading profiles, with over a third finding shirtless mirror selfies unappealing. Users with detailed, genuine profiles that reflect their personality and interests tend to attract more interest.
Partnerships to Enhance Experiences
Rashi Sanon Narang, Founder of Heads Up For Tails, expressed excitement about their collaboration with Uber Pet. She mentioned that at Heads Up For Tails, there is a strong belief that pets are family, and every pet parent deserves a seamless and enjoyable experience when out with their furry companions.
