vivo T4R 5G: A Budget Phone Redefining Affordability

There is a multitude of affordable 5G smartphones available in India, but occasionally one emerges that truly distinguishes itself. The vivo T4R 5G falls into this category, boasting a quad-curved AMOLED display, an unexpectedly competent camera, and a price that remains just below ₹20,000. It makes an impressive claim to offer a premium experience without the associated cost.

Ultra-Slim Design That Prioritises Comfort

The T4R is the type of device that attracts attention the moment it is revealed from a pocket. Measuring just 7.39mm in thickness, it holds the title of India’s thinnest quad-curved smartphone. The curves are not merely aesthetic; they seamlessly fit into the hand, ensuring it is one of the most comfortable phones to handle in this price range.

The Twilight Blue model features a stunning 3D finish that subtly changes under varying light, while the Arctic White variation favours a more classic design. Both variants exude a premium appearance, despite the use of a plastic body; however, the diamond shield glass on the front effectively resists scratches.

A Display That Exceeds Expectations

Affordable phones seldom receive accolades for their displays, yet the T4R’s 6.7-inch quad-curved AMOLED screen excels in its category. Vivid colours, deep blacks, and a fluid 120Hz refresh rate contribute to an immersive scrolling and gaming experience. With a peak brightness of 1800 nits, it copes well with Delhi’s harsh midday sun.

The edge-to-edge design may even lead one to perceive this device as a flagship. Whether enjoying Netflix or browsing Instagram, the display creates a surprisingly high-end feel.

Performance That Matters

Equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 7400, a 4nm processor that effectively balances performance and efficiency, the T4R handles everything from routine multitasking to resource-intensive apps like Lightroom Mobile and Call of Duty: Mobile without any hiccups. Its AnTuTu score of just below 700,000 places it safely within mid-range flagship territory.

Boasting up to 12GB of RAM, with an additional 12GB available via virtual expansion, it may appear excessive, but this truly aids in background app retention and seamless multitasking. The phone remains cool during extended gaming sessions, thanks to vivo’s effective internal cooling system.

Outstanding Battery Life

Packing a 5700mAh battery, the T4R easily endured a day and a half of mixed usage, including gaming, GPS navigation, video streaming, and casual browsing. When it came time to recharge, the 44W Flash Charge technology achieved 50% battery in approximately thirty minutes. While not the quickest charging option available, it is reliable and safe.

Camera Capabilities That Go Beyond Expectations

The main 50MP Sony sensor featuring OIS on the rear proves to be a delightful surprise. Daytime photographs were sharp and well-balanced, and the night mode exceeded expectations for this price point. Portraits exhibited excellent edge detection, and the bokeh lens provided decent separation of foreground from background.

What truly sets this camera apart is its ability to record 4K video using both front and rear cameras. This capability is uncommon in this price range, making it a significant advantage for casual content creators. The camera app is packed with practical tools such as AI Erase and adjustments for bokeh focal length, offering more creative freedom than typically available at this level.

The vivo T4R 5G supports underwater photography, and this is not merely a gimmick. With IP68 and IP69 ratings, this phone can endure submersion. The shutter can be activated using physical buttons, and post-dive, the speaker system employs high-frequency vibrations to expel trapped water, providing a clever solution that functions effectively.

vivo also boasts military-grade shock resistance; while it was not intentionally dropped, the phone withstood a minor fall from a café table without any damage.

Software and Security Commitment

Operating on Funtouch OS 15 atop Android 15, the user interface is cleaner than previous vivo iterations and features less bloat. The modern design is paired with the company’s promise of two years of major software updates and three years of security patches, which is a welcome move away from the uncertainties often associated with budget Android devices.

Gaming Capability

From frame rates to thermal consistency, the T4R manages demanding games exceptionally well compared to other smartphones in its category. The curved screen enhances immersion, and even during prolonged gaming sessions, the device remains comfortable to hold. Game Mode activates automatically to reduce distractions and optimise performance.

Value Proposition and Assessment

The vivo T4R 5G starts at ₹17,499 during promotional offers. Even without discounts, the high-end 12GB + 256GB version priced at ₹21,499 presents solid value. The specifications offered—curved AMOLED display, IP rating, impressive battery life, and 4K video capabilities—are qualities typically found in devices priced ₹5,000 to ₹8,000 higher.

The vivo T4R 5G transcends mere specifications; it revolutionises expectations for under ₹20,000. With its eye-catching design, curved display, dependable performance, and feature-rich cameras, this smartphone delivers a flagship experience at a fraction of the cost.

This rare blend of design, functionality, and foresight serves as a reminder that an outstanding phone is not solely about specifications but how those features perform in practical, everyday scenarios.
