Vodafone Idea Launches Vi 5G Services in Bengaluru
Vodafone Idea (Vi) has officially launched its 5G services in Bengaluru starting from 11 June. This significant event marks a key milestone in Vi’s ongoing 5G expansion, as it adds Bengaluru, India’s leading technology centre, to its growing 5G network that already includes Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Patna, and Chandigarh.
The objective of Vi 5G is to provide quicker data speeds, reduced latency, and improved connectivity for consumers and businesses alike. The Bengaluru launch is part of Vi’s extensive strategy to roll out 5G services across all 17 key circles in which it has spectrum rights, aiming for completion by August 2025.
Vi 5G Plans in Bengaluru
To facilitate the rollout, Vi has launched a variety of prepaid and postpaid plans equipped for 5G. Prepaid plans begin at ₹299, featuring 1GB of daily data for 28 days. The ₹349 and ₹365 plans offer 1.5GB and 2GB of daily data, respectively. All these prepaid plans are currently available with unlimited 5G data under a special introductory offer. For long-term users, the ₹3,599 plan includes 2GB daily data for an entire year, along with unlimited 5G usage.
Postpaid users can select from Vi Max plans, starting at ₹451, while plans priced at ₹551 and ₹751 provide up to 150GB of monthly data. Notably, Vi holds the distinction of being the only telecom operator in India offering unlimited 5G on plans that include less than 2GB of daily data.
Which Devices Support Vi 5G?
Vi 5G services will be available on all smartphones launched after 1 January 2020 that support VoLTE. Users are encouraged to verify 5G signal availability in their device settings and restart their device to enable the service.
The company has set up a dedicated microsite that provides detailed information about its 5G plans and network features.
Anand Dani, the Business Head for Karnataka at Vodafone Idea, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating that they are delighted to introduce Vi 5G to Bengaluru, a city known for its technological and digital advancements. With the combination of next-gen 5G and an upgraded 4G network, they aim to enhance user experiences significantly.
To boost performance and minimise environmental impact, Vi has partnered with Samsung to develop efficient infrastructure and AI-driven Self-Organising Networks (SON). Enhanced efficiency is further supported by the integration of high-transmit-power, multi-technology radios.
