Xiaomi to Adopt Next-Generation Snapdragon 8-Series Chipset

Xiaomi is set to be among the pioneering smartphone brands to integrate Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8-series chipset, as officially stated on Wednesday, following earlier hints. This chipset, anticipated for an official reveal later this year, will be included in Xiaomi’s premium smartphones available in both China and international markets.

This announcement coincides with Qualcomm Technologies and Xiaomi Corporation renewing their longstanding partnership through a new multi-year agreement aimed at fostering innovation in premium smartphones and connected devices.

Strengthening Collaboration for Premium Devices

Under this expanded agreement, Xiaomi will persist in equipping its flagship smartphones with Snapdragon 8-series platforms across multiple product generations, with anticipated annual increases in volume.

Qualcomm’s President and CEO, Cristiano Amon, remarked that both companies have consistently produced outstanding products that have advanced the pace of global smartphone innovation. He expressed excitement for the ongoing partnership across a wider array of product categories.

Future Areas of Cooperation

The two firms are keen to enhance their collaboration in sectors including automotive systems, AR/VR devices, smart home technologies, wearables, and tablets. A significant emphasis will be placed on on-device artificial intelligence (AI) across these edge device categories.

Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, highlighted Qualcomm as one of Xiaomis’ most trusted and crucial partners, expressing that this renewed collaboration will enable the company to deliver more innovative and high-quality products to a global audience.

A Decade-Long Relationship

The collaboration between the two corporations spans over a decade. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips have powered millions of Xiaomi devices, including the initial Xiaomi Mi 1 smartphone launched in 2011. The recent Mi 15 series, featuring the Snapdragon 8 Elite, has demonstrated excellent commercial success.

Expanding Beyond Smartphones

Qualcomm’s platforms are not limited to smartphones, as they are also utilized in Xiaomi’s other product categories. The SU7 electric vehicle, unveiled in 2023, employs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Cockpit Platform and Auto 5G Modem-RF solution. Additionally, Xiaomi’s wearables and home connectivity devices, such as the Buds 5 Pro, Watch 2 Pro, and Wi-Fi 7 routers, benefit from Qualcomm’s chipset technologies.

This renewed agreement is expected to bolster Xiaomi’s standing in the premium device market while simultaneously expanding Qualcomm’s reach across emerging technology sectors.
