YouTubers Ranveer Allahbadia and Apoorva Makhija in Controversy Over Offensive Remarks
YouTubers Ranveer Allahbadia, known as BeerBiceps, and Apoorva Makhija, referred to as The Rebel Kid, have found themselves in hot water due to their disrespectful comments on Samay Raina’s programme, India’s Got Latent. A complaint has also been lodged against Raina and the show’s creators.
The complaint, submitted to the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, accuses Allahbadia and Makhija of using “abusive language” during the show. The letter calls for strict measures against the individuals involved.
Rekha Sharma, former NCW chief and Rajya Sabha MP, labelled the video as shocking. “The video is very shocking and I think whether it is a female or a male, this kind of joke is never accepted by society. Making jokes about a mother or a female’s body doesn’t look good and somewhere it shows how today’s youth has stooped down to such a level morally. I think such jokes affect others who are engaged in similar creative things. I have just forwarded that video to the NCW Chairperson to take action,” she stated.
Allahbadia faced intense criticism on social media for his remark directed at a contestant: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?”
Makhija also received considerable backlash for her comments pertaining to women’s private parts, with many arguing that her remarks were more inappropriate than those made by Allahbadia.
Videos featuring both YouTubers from the episode have gone viral. The specific episode also featured personalities like Ashish Chanchlani and Jaspreet Singh on the panel.
Netizens have condemned the actions of the YouTubers and comedian Samay Raina, labelling their style of humour as crass and offensive. Some users have even called for government intervention, while others highlighted that young viewers with access to gadgets could easily come across these videos on YouTube. Several individuals have suggested that such videos should be marked as ‘adult content’ and that YouTube must implement stricter controls to restrict access to such material on their platform.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has mentioned that if societal norms are breached, then action ought to be taken. “I have come to know about it. I have not seen it yet. Things have been said and presented in a wrong way. Everyone has freedom of speech but our freedom ends when we encroach upon the freedom of others… In our society, we have made some rules, if someone violates them it is absolutely wrong and action should be taken against them,” he stated.
