Ranveer Allahbadia Faces Backlash Over Controversial Comments
Ranveer Allahbadia, the YouTuber and podcaster, is experiencing significant scrutiny following his remarks during a recent episode of Samay Raina’s show, India’s Got Latent. His intrusive question posed to a contestant sparked outrage online.
Controversial Question Draws Criticism
Allahbadia’s provocative question to a contestant was: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life or join in once and make it stop?” The segment was shared widely across social media platforms, leading to public denouncement from both politicians and internet users who accused India’s Got Latent of trivialising vulgarity in the guise of comedy.
Plagiarism Allegations Arise
Further controversy arose when netizens discovered that Allahbadia’s remarks were not original. The comment had previously been used in an episode of the foreign show Truth or Drink, hosted by Sammy Walsh and Alan Fang. This revelation intensified the backlash against Allahbadia, as social media users expressed doubt about the authenticity of his content.
Public Reactions and Criticism
One user remarked, “It’s disappointing to learn that this was plagiarised from somewhere else.” Another commented critically, stating, “Ranveer Allahbadia was aware of what he was going to say – it was a well-prepared skit copied from an English show! It was not an accident or a slip of tongue! Do not accept his apology because it was not a mistake!”
Another social media user pointed out the lack of originality, saying, “Ranveer Allahbadia’s joke is actually from another show called #OGCrew. Dude actually saw something on the internet, thought it was funny and plagiarised it.” A different user reflected, “Damn brother copied this also – is there nothing original about this guy?”
Further criticism emerged when someone noted: “They know exactly what they’re doing. If it had been live and spontaneous, I could understand that. However, this is a recorded, edited, and promoted production, and they are fully aware of the impact it has.”
Apology and Legal Action
In light of the uproar, Allahbadia apologised for his remarks, asserting that family is the last thing he would choose to disrespect. Additionally, the Guwahati Police have filed an FIR against all influencers present in the video, as confirmed by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on X (formerly Twitter).
The FIR accuses Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija of “promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussion.”
