OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, a prominent figure in the field of Artificial Intelligence, has joyfully welcomed his first child.
Altman, instrumental in the advancement of ChatGPT, shared the news of his baby boy’s unexpected arrival through a post on X. He expressed, “Welcome to the world, little guy! He came early and is going to be in the nicu for a while. He is doing well and it’s really nice to be in a little bubble taking care of him. I have never felt such love.”
Details surrounding the baby’s name and exact birth date have not been disclosed, but the tech executive conveyed his enthusiasm for this new chapter in life. Altman and his husband, Oliver Mulherin, are embracing parenthood earlier than anticipated. According to a report from Bloomberg, the couple had expected their first child’s arrival in March 2025.
The announcement has generated an outpouring of congratulatory messages on social media for Altman and Mulherin, who works as a software developer.

Despite their substantial influence in the technology sphere, Altman and Mulherin have kept their personal life relatively private. Their marriage, which occurred sometime between 2023 and early 2024, became widely known in January 2024 after photos of their intimate ring exchange ceremony at a coastal venue circulated on social media. Altman later confirmed their marriage to NBC News.
The couple had previously voiced their intention to start a family, as Altman highlighted in a September 2023 interview with New York Magazine. Although they seldom appear in public, they were seen together at the US State Dinner in 2023, an event held in honour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
