Ashok Leyland Bus Captures Attention Following Missile Incident in UAE
An Indian-made Ashok Leyland bus has gained unexpected prominence online after missile debris fell over various regions of the United Arab Emirates amidst escalating tensions in West Asia.
The bus was stationed along a roadway in Dubai when fragments from intercepted missiles landed nearby. Images circulating on social media depict significant damage to the rear of the vehicle; metal panels were torn apart and the back section severely impacted.
Missile Debris and its Impact
The missile debris seems to have scraped against the bus rather than making a direct hit. Despite the evident destruction, the main structure remained intact, without any fire or collapse occurring.
During the overnight missile strikes, prominent landmarks and vital infrastructure in Dubai were affected by the fallout. Debris from intercepted missiles and drones ignited a fire at the iconic Burj Al Arab, while parts of Dubai International Airport, known to be one of the busiest in the world, suffered damage, leading to a temporary halt of flight operations and leaving several airport staff in need of medical attention.
Damage to Local Infrastructure
On the artificial Palm Jumeirah island, a building close to the beach, including the Fairmont The Palm resort, caught fire due to the debris, resulting in injuries to local residents. Furthermore, falling fragments triggered a fire at one of the berths at Jebel Ali Port, a crucial trade and shipping centre for the emirate, while extensive portions of the city’s airspace remained closed.
No casualties related to the bus have been reported as of yet.
Public Reaction on Social Media
As visuals of the damaged vehicle circulated widely online, users on social media responded with a mix of dark humour and pride in Indian manufacturing. One comment stated that if Khamenei had been aware of the durability of Ashok Leyland buses, he might have chosen to hide in one instead of relying on Chinese technology for protection.
Another user noted the resilience of the Ashok Leyland bus, stating that its construction involved high-tensile steel frames and reinforced chassis that undergo rigorous testing on challenging roads. It was mentioned that some of these buses have quietly surpassed over one million kilometres without significant repairs.
A different user quipped that such buses could serve as a strong first line of defence on borders. Someone else highlighted the quality of Ashok Leyland products, observing that despite the missile grazing the vehicle, it remained largely unscathed, showcasing its superior construction.
