Shashi Tharoor Critiques Union Budget 2025 with Coldplay References
Veteran politician and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has recently used Coldplay-inspired metaphors to express his discontent with the Union Budget 2025, introduced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman earlier this month.
In a reel shared on Instagram, Tharoor pointed out, “Coldplay says ‘Fix You,’ but the Finance Minister says ‘Tax You’…and politely asks you to adjust.”
The Coldplay-themed critiques did not stop there. He remarked, “If only the budget shone as brightly as Coldplay’s lyrics. Instead, it resembles The Scientist, filled with promises yet leaves us pondering where we went astray. When it comes to the deficit, not even my moon goggles can transform this catastrophe into a ‘sky full of stars’. What we have is merely a spreadsheet full of scars,” as he was spotted wearing his blue “moon” glasses.
Tharoor was also seen holding budget documents as he commented, “Even Chris Martin wouldn’t succeed in finding Paradise among these figures. Yet, they will still proclaim, ‘Look at the stars, look at how they are shining for you,’ while conveniently obscuring the light of reality—and our bank balances.”
Budget Concerns Highlighted by Shashi Tharoor
As the discussions around the budget come to a close, Tharoor urged everyone to cut through the distractions and face the realities: “The GST continues to burden essential items, income tax reductions are presented as a charitable act, and fuel prices are a complicated web of VAT, excise duties, and state taxes—with no genuine attempt to reform the system. Who benefits from this? Citizens are not opposed to taxes—if they yield value. We require strategies that foster genuine growth, not merely temporary solutions. Because at this moment, nobody said it was easy,” he concluded his Instagram reel caption.
