YouTube Removes Episode of Samay Raina’s ‘India’s Got Latent’
YouTube has taken down the recent episode of Samay Raina’s show ‘India’s Got Latent’, sparking a significant uproar across social media platforms. This particular episode featured well-known podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, also recognised as BeerBiceps, along with Apoorva Mukhija, referred to as The Rebel Kid, and comedians Ashish Chanchlani and Jaspreet Singh.
Government Action and Social Media Response
Senior Advisor to the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Kanchan Gupta, announced on social media platform X that the episode has been blocked by the Indian government.
The episode faced controversy due to inappropriate discussions among the panellists. Allahbadia received heavy criticism for posing a shocking question to a contestant: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” Mukhija also made unwarranted comments regarding women’s private parts during her interaction with a contestant.
Apology from Ranveer Allahbadia
Following the backlash, Allahbadia issued an apology for his remarks. He stated in a video that his comment crossed the line, saying, “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate. It wasn’t even funny, comedy is not my forte. I’m just here to say sorry.”
Response from the National Human Rights Commission
YouTube’s decision came after the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) wrote a letter to the platform, demanding the removal of the episode. The NHRC instructed, “In view of the foregoing, you are hereby directed to take urgent action to remove the concerned episode/videos from YouTube. Prior to the removal of such content, you are also required to submit details of the channel and the specific videos to the concerned police authorities where the FIR has been registered, for further necessary action.”
An FIR has also been lodged against Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, Apoorva Mukhija, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and India’s Got Latent for “allegedly using abusive language on the show.”
