Indian Startups Funding Overview: $662 Million Raised in July

Indian startups raised $662 million in July, marking a significant drop from the impressive $2 billion achieved in June, primarily driven by Meta’s investment in CRED. The month of July included just one funding round exceeding $100 million, as Emergent secured new capital, becoming the seventh unicorn of 2026. The next largest deal during this period reached merely $40 million, indicating the restricted access to substantial funding amounts this month. Nonetheless, July’s total surpassed the $630 million raised in May. Notably, early-stage startups contributed to 38% of the overall capital raised. While IPO activities remained robust, Zepto chose to delay its public listing amid ongoing valuation discussions with investors. The month also saw four startups shutting down, although there were no significant reports of layoffs, which is unusual in the current environment.

Funding Overview

As reported by Startup Superb, Indian startups accumulated around $662 million through 85 deals in July. This total comprised 16 growth and late-stage deals amounting to $410 million and 64 early-stage deals contributing $252 million. Additionally, five deals were recorded without specified funding amounts during the month.

Month-on-Month and Year-on-Year Trend

In terms of month-on-month comparison, startup funding dropped by 67% to $662.2 million in July from $2 billion in June, which stands as the second lowest monthly total in the past 13 months. Year-on-year, funding increased by 11% from $597.6 million in July 2025 to $662.2 million in July 2026, despite the number of deals declining from 105 to 85.

Top 10 Growth Stage Deals

Growth and late-stage funding in July was spearheaded by AI startup Emergent, which raised $130 million in a Series C financing round. Raghu Vamsi Aerospace Group, Veriqus, and BusinessNext received $40 million each, while Neo Group secured $36.3 million in its Series C funding. Other noteworthy transactions included Limelight Diamonds, Elevate Education, Quick Clean, Apna Mart, and Naturis Cosmetics, encompassing investments across AI, fintech, deeptech, consumer services, educational technology, and manufacturing.

Top 10 Early Stage Deals

Early-stage financing was led by Arboreal Bioinnovations, which attracted $24 million in its Series A round. Both Plazza and Vorflux raised $15 million each, while Reo.Dev and BatX Energies garnered $11.3 million and $11 million, respectively. Additional prominent deals comprised Dovetail Capital, Aham Housing Finance, E3 Electric.AI, CARPL.ai, and Aukera, with funding spanning food technology, AI, fintech, mobility, health technology, battery innovations, and e-commerce.

Mergers and Acquisitions

July’s mergers and acquisitions activity featured several significant transactions within e-commerce, proptech, edtech, and venture capital. Snitch acquired fashion brand Berrylush to bolster its footprint in women’s fashion, while Aurum PropTech initiated plans to purchase Housing.com in a $46.2 million transaction. PhysicsWallah increased its stake in Sarrthi IAS through a $7.5 million deal, reinforcing its position in the civil service exam preparation market. Additionally, WTF expanded its influence in branding and creative services by acquiring creative agency BTG.

City and Segment Wise Deals

Bengaluru retained its top position in funding during July, raising $323.93 million, accounting for 48.92% of the total capital across 43 deals. Delhi NCR followed with $136.35 million from 16 deals, whereas Mumbai collected $100.15 million through 13 transactions. Hyderabad raised $49.6 million from three deals, and Pune recorded $11.6 million from four transactions. AI captured the largest share of investor interest in July, with 15 deals totalling $201.62 million, representing 31.75% of total funding. Fintech followed with $141.5 million over 8 deals, whereas e-commerce startups amassed $55.15 million across 12 deals. Deeptech and edtech secured $43.35 million and $20.25 million, respectively.

Stage Wise Deals

Series B attracted the most substantial funding in July, amassing $190.4 million from 8 deals, which accounted for 28.75% of the total capital raised. Series A followed with $141.16 million from 17 transactions, while Seed rounds contributed $60.97 million across 29 deals. Pre-Series A and Pre-Seed startups acquired $30.25 million and $11.45 million, respectively.

Layoffs, Shutdowns and Departures

In July, four startups, namely Dream Money, Klydo, PicSee, and Medial, ceased operations. Unlike previous months, no prominent layoff announcements emerged. However, layoffs during the first half of 2026 affected around 2,500 employees across private startups. On the executive side, 25 key personnel appointments and 6 senior-level departures were noted, signalling an ongoing emphasis on strengthening leadership despite the reduction in funding.

Trends

Artificial Intelligence stood out as the predominant investment theme: AI captured the most investor interest in July, with 15 deals worth $201.62 million. Emergent’s $130 million funding round and its entry into the unicorn club further reinforced the industry’s momentum. Large funding amounts remained scarce: July experienced just one funding round exceeding $100 million, while the second largest deal was only $40 million, underscoring the ongoing dearth of sizeable late-stage investments. Zepto’s IPO deferment captured significant attention: Zepto chose to delay its anticipated IPO amid investor valuation discussions, drawing notable scrutiny as the company is among the most eagerly anticipated startup listing candidates. Additionally, Pronto’s wearable camera program sparked extensive industry debate as it confirmed an expansion of its initiative through its opt-in Pronto Verified service, which documents service sessions and employs anonymised footage for AI training, igniting discussions about privacy and AI’s role in home services. Flipkart is preparing to venture into food delivery: Walmart-owned Flipkart announced intentions to enter India’s online food delivery sector soon, likely intensifying competition against established players like Zomato and Swiggy.
