Decathlon’s Revenue Growth and Expansion in India

Decathlon is witnessing a surge in interest in sports beyond cricket in India, with participation in activities like badminton, hockey, boxing, swimming, trekking, and skating on the rise. This shift has allowed brands to cater to a broader spectrum of athletic needs. Decathlon, a prominent name in sporting goods, provides a diverse range of products under one roof. This article delves into the financial performance of the sporting goods retailer for FY26.

Financial Performance of Decathlon India in FY26

Decathlon’s Indian branch reported an impressive 8.35% increase in operational revenue year-on-year, reaching Rs 4,478 crore in FY26, up from Rs 4,133 crore in FY25. Since establishing its presence in India in 2009, Decathlon has become one of the country’s foremost sporting goods retailers. With 132 stores currently operating, the company aims to expand to 200 locations by the year 2030.

Product Offerings and Revenue Sources

The primary revenue stream for Decathlon continues to be the sale of sporting goods and apparel. The company’s product range includes clothing, footwear, trekking equipment, fitness tools, and accessories spanning numerous sports. Additionally, it documented Rs 39 crore in other income, elevating its total income to Rs 4,517 crore for FY26.

Expenditure Analysis

On the expenditure front, material procurement and sporting goods represented the largest costs, making up nearly 64% of total expenses. This expense rose by 7.4%, reaching Rs 2,840 crore in FY26 from Rs 2,644 crore in FY25. Employee benefit costs also climbed by 12% to Rs 407 crore during the fiscal year. Other expenses—covering rent, franchise fees, logistics, credit card commissions, and IT support—contributed to a total expenditure increase of 4%, amounting to Rs 4,435 crore in FY26, compared to Rs 4,264 crore in FY25.

Profitability and Margins

Despite the rise in costs, Decathlon India achieved profitability for the fiscal year. The company reported a net profit of Rs 63 crore in FY26, contrasting a loss of Rs 65 crore in FY25. Furthermore, its EBITDA for the year stood at Rs 424 crore. On a unit basis, Decathlon invested Rs 0.99 to generate every rupee of operational revenue in FY26, with a return on capital employed (ROCE) and an EBITDA margin recorded at 7.6% and 9% respectively. Total current assets were Rs 1,686 crore at the end of the fiscal year.

Growth Initiatives for Decathlon in India

Decathlon has consistently hovered around the Rs 4,000 crore revenue threshold in recent years. To break this ceiling, the company is focused on expanding its presence in more cities and states, an initiative already underway. Additionally, plans are in place to grow in European markets and increase exports for products made in India, potentially unlocking new avenues for growth. The India-EU Free Trade Agreement may provide further support, contingent on the outcome of the negotiations. Introducing more product categories and appealing items to Indian consumers will also be pivotal as Decathlon strives to reach the Rs 5,000 crore revenue milestone.
