Amit Sharma Leaves Dream Sports to Pursue AI Venture
Amit Sharma, the Chief Technology Officer of Dream Sports, is transitioning from the company after a remarkable ten years to embark on an ambitious AI venture. Sharma became part of Dream Sports in 2016 following over a decade in the United States, where he held positions at major firms like Netflix and Yahoo. Throughout his time at Dream Sports, he played a vital role in enhancing the organisation’s technology operations and engineering team as Dream11 evolved into one of India’s premier sports-tech platforms.
Reasons for Departure
His exit occurs amidst a restructuring effort at Dream Sports. Last year, the company organised its operations into several business segments, with Sharma leading the AI-focused arm, Dream Sports AI, where he served as both founder and CEO. This change coincides with the recent closure of Dream Play, the company’s AI-driven sports performance analytics application, along with the phasing out of the fintech initiative, Dream Money. Both of these ventures were part of Dream Sports’ attempts to diversify beyond the realm of fantasy gaming.
Achievements During His Tenure
In a post on LinkedIn, Sharma expressed his enthusiasm about moving on to his next challenge after a fruitful decade with the firm. He highlighted that during his tenure, Dream Sports expanded its technology team from approximately 20 individuals at the time of his arrival to over 600 employees today.
Background of Dream Sports
Founded by Harsh Jain and Bhavit Sheth, Dream Sports was last valued at $8 billion in 2021. The company has been reshaping its operations in light of regulatory hurdles that India’s real-money gaming sector has encountered. Just last week, Vikrant Mudaliar, the Chief Marketing Officer of Dream Sports, also departed from the organisation after an eight-year period.
